They do have some pretty different features though. When using pickups that have a lower signal the ability to substantially preamplify that signal can be pretty handy. Does f-deck's gem have and xlr out? That can be handy if you are playing big venues where the soundman insists on a pickup line.

My post was about terminology, not features. I did mention that, for what it is, I really like fdeck's device. ;)

The HPF-PRE does not have an XLR out. It has a adjustable high pass filter, a phase reverse switch and a 10 meg ohm load.

The Fishman Pro Platinum has more bells and whistles. It's a very nice box and costs more.

I use a Realist into the LMII with good results. However, I tried the Realist on two other basses and it sounded like crap. IMO, matching the pickup to the bass is most important. Once that's done the amp matters less. Sure, amps sound different, but the best amp matched to a pickup that doesn't fit the bass will not sound good.
Fdeck's box is very nice. Sadly, I sold mine and prolly should get another.

so i bought a, possibly broken, fishman pro eq on ebay for 40 bucks

its from a storage sale so the seller doesn't know anything about it
but most of the stuff they sell is in this fashion so i didnt worry too much

ill post "reviews" later yay yay

allright so i got a Great deal on the fishman pro eq from ebay.

40 bucks...! yay!

this thing was exactly what I needed. When I plugged it in without even touching the EQ it helped by 50%. Taking away that nasty boxy woofy sound

I put in a little eq! cut some bass and some mids pushed the treble and brilliance and my bass sounds like my bass now!

Thanks Francois, I need to study the differences or functions of an HPF and a low cut filter.

For the most part I'm fighting an annoying, speaker jumping, THUD right now. I've read that that the FDeck is useful against this. I've read good things about both units.

So, would the sub bass trim on the Pro EQ model function as an HPF?

I've had luck with a realist and AI at low volumes. FC is nice for louder things into AI or EA doubler head with an EA speaker. However, if you can, just a mic into a nice little pre and a powered speaker from EV or JBL is best. Not always practical. Bottom line, making quiet things loud is a compromise. There is a reason the electric bass totally eclipsed the DB as the bass instrument of choice, you can f#@%ing hear it! That being said, the gear is always getting better for DB

Same thing, in fact.
I know, it's confusing...
The high-pass filter cuts the lows and lets the highs pass.
So, would the sub bass trim on the Pro EQ model function as an HPF?

The sub-bass trim on the regular Pro-EQ is a sub-bass *booster*, not cutter.

Thanks Francois for helping me with that. I got this from the Fishman Plat. Pro EQ manual:

"Tighten up your sound, or dial out deep-bass feedback with the depth
control. The depth control works hand in hand with the Bass control to
bring out tight and articulate lows.:
1. Start with the depth turned up full (5:00) with the EQ set flat on your
bass, bass amp and/or PA.
2. Set the bass slider to full boost.
3. Play the bass and back off the Depth (counter-clockwise) until you hear
the sound tighten up, usually between 9:00 and 12:00.
4. Re-set the bass slider to taste.
In addition to cleaning up your low end, the depth control will let your power
amp work more efficiently and provide protection for your speakers. When
set below 1:00, the depth control gets rid of the power-gobbling sub-sonic
stuff that taxes both your amp and speakers (not to mention your ears)."

So, these two controls are working somewhat like the adjustable HPF on the FDeck? I saw that they used the term "sub-sonic", I think that may be partly the cause for the "THUD" I'm experiencing. Although, perhaps the term "Infrasonic" would be more correct? (thanks to TB'er "Drurb" for explaining that term in another post somewhere) Anyway, just trying to wrap my head around these two units. A little off topic but, I'd like to try one of these HPF's in the effects loop of my SM400...

Well, the specs shows the trim can give 0 to +10dB at 80Hz, so I assume it's a booster only. (attached)
