Ohhh Snap! Its the Stryker!

That is sooo ugly............guess there trying for a happy medium between a thunderbird and some 80's POS?........Why do they keep trying to copy other basses.............wasn't there one that was a cross between a Wal and a Gibson a little while back.............fugly!

I like the body shape, but that headstock's gotta go for this model... :eyebrow:

It does seem as though Warwick is trying to cater more to the metal market these days, but that headstock just ain't metal. I'd give it a 6.5/10 on visual appeal.

EDIT: Friggin typo... :rollno:

As an Alembic Spyder owner, I think Warwick is trying to copy Alembic, but not making the mark. I don't think Warwick is claiming this as a "John Entwistle" bass, but if you look at how they're made, they're clearly trying to copy the Alembic Spyder. It might be a nice instrument, I don't know. I guess I'd have to play one to find out.

And they're not cheap. I saw one on Bass Northwest's site for about $5K. For that kind of scratch I'd go to the source - Alembic, and get a better instrument, IMHO. I paid $5600 for my Spyder, new, with case. I don't think I'd pay that much for a Warwick.

I know there are some that like Warwicks, and that's cool. But I've yet to play one with or without a decent set up that I've liked.

And the headstock .... yechhh.

Save your money, and buy the real thing. An Alembic.

That thing is ugly as sin. 5 years ago Warwick were respected by most bass players because they made basses that sounded good, felt good, and looked good. They had a niche that they catered for nicely. Now, they are introducing some of the ugliest basses on the planet, and straying far from the niche that made them who they are. I'm disappointed.

Just my opinion though.

I'm not fond of the body shape either, and it is expensive. But I am a Warwick fan. I just prefer the more classic Warwick shapes like the Thumb, Corvette, Dolphin, and Fortress.

The Cruiser/Stryker may be hit or miss as well as the Katana (in terms of aesthetics), but some of Warwick's newer designs have struck a good chord. So far, the Doublebuck has gotten nothing but positive reviews, and the chambered Hot Rod limited edition is appealing (since it's said to be quite light. I'd like to see Warwick do that kind of chambering with their other basses) I like the bleached blonde Thumb's aesthetics too.

I wish Warwick luck with the Stryker, but I still think the Doublebuck is the best of their new offerings.

I'd never looked really closely at the Alembic pricing, as I thought they were around $US9k for the JE models and I have nowhere near that much coin spare at the moment for one. $US5k6 makes it much more attractive, and against $US5k for a Warwick, a no-brainer for the Alembic IMO.

Alembic raised their prices about 15% in January. I bought my Spyder well before that, when it listed for about $7500 or so, new. Retail on them now is about $11K, I imagine a new one, after getting the dealer's best price, would be closer to $8K or so, maybe more. I still think it's a better value than the Warwick, even with the higher price, but that's just my preference.

I'm into the explorer shape- and based on my experience with warwick tone and growl...I can't wait to try out a Stryker-yeah sure the headstock isn't ideal due to it's pointy explorer body- but I expect a similar growl in the Stryker as found in the Corvette double $$ (2 soapbars).

Does anybody have any idea when the Stryker is going on production and hitting the stores???
