Ohm

Yep, removes all the ???? of will it work/how will it sound/will it fry my amp. As far as $'s you could get away with a 4ohm 4x10 from another manufacturer (used) for as little as $200, it would still be a better idea in my book.
True that..But I live in Norway, so when it comes to prices and Ampeg, it is another story..I guess would bu lucky to get one for 600-700 dollars..used:(

gear in Oslo, but if you can find any of these would be decent...SWR, Carvin, Gallien Krueger, Fender etc. can usually
be found cheap, I'd stay away from the aluminum cone Hartke's personally (not that their not decent but I don't
think the tone would blend well with an Ampeg).

As long as the 2x10 has twice the impedance of the 4x10 it will work reasonably.
I have never felt this was a requirement. As long as the 210 can handle the power it will get, it should be fine.

I do not understand the supposed requirement for each driver in a speaker array to get the same power. It is illusory. Certainly if you *want* to do it that way, ok, but there's no problem having each cabinet in an array get the same power.

It’s one of the reasons why a 2x10 mated with a 4x10 can get into trouble. With equal impedances the 2x10 is doing most of the work while the 4x10 is pottering along.

The idea of adding a cabinet is to get more air moving and balancing the work across all the drivers equally is better engineering.
I guess you're right..I walked away from the deal...Didn get the cabs.. But tnx anyway;)

Each cab could be of anything kind. It could be anything within a range of 110 to 810.
So if a 110 cab is of 4 Ohm and a 810 cab is of 4 Ohm I don't think it was good idea to have matching impedance for the cabs just to get an even power distribution to cabs but remarkable uneven cabs.
In some cases it's better to have uneven impedance with cabs just to get even power distribution to drivers which also (often) promises better tonal balance within the system.

Some folks here, like myself, really avoid 4 ohm cabs so as to maximize flex in setups. I have been running two 8ohm cabs for about 20 years and have never had an issue or any sort. The ONLY gripe folks have about 8ohm cabs is that they will not get quite as loud as a similarly configured 4 ohm cab. I just make sure I have an amp with plenty of juice, so that's not a problem.

definitely a 2x10 or 1x15 is poor match for a hlf in fact any mis match is a poor match aside from another matching hlf

and with tube amps the you always want to use a matching impedance or slightly higher impedance with odd ohm setups.

and defiantly no. never use a 2ohm load on a 4ohm tap. 2ohms pulls a lot of current and 4ohm tap might not handle it.

likewise the transformer isn't a set impedance it's a ratio. so a certain load on one side changes the load on the other side. and the tubes are connected to the transformer and to operate correctly the tubes need a certain impedance to work correctly.
that's why there is multiple taps on a transformer each tap is at a different ratio for 8 4 and 2 ohms so the output tubes will always see the same impedance for different impedance cabinets.
the current and impedance match with a low impedance like 2ohms is
much ddifferent than 4 or 8 ohms
often you hear storys about old fender amps being used with mismatched speakers on the single 4ohm tap. 8ohm cabinet being higher impedance no big deal. higher impedance less current. and yes the tubes are getting the wrong impedance but no big deal with 50 watt or 100 watt tube amps. but a 2ohm load wayyyyy to much current and a very poor impedance match for the tubes on a 4ohm tap.

that's with 400volt plate voltage for 50 or 100 watt heads.

start mismatching 500 or 600 volt 150 or 300watt tube heads It's bad news.

Nobody suggestes to have half the impedance neither twice the impedance loaded to a distinct OT output impedance.
The ampeg V2 can power 2 Ohm or 4 Ohm or 8 Ohm "nominal" impedance.

What I tried to explain is that a 2.7 nominal load can change it's average impedance dependent on EQ setting.
Ported cabs show an extreme impedance peak number at the low frequency range, which sometimes is even bigger than 30 Ohm.
If power density is shifted to the low frequency range by decent EQ-ing bass frequencies than will cause an remarkable increase of average impedance for lowish notes played on the instrument.
In consequence a 2.7 Ohm nominal load acts more like a 4 Ohm load or even bigger thus it may be benefitial to connect a 2.7 Ohm nominal to OT 4 Ohm rather than 2 Ohm.

Even if the impedance is matched like 4 Ohm nominal cab at OT 4 Ohm, an excessive bass EQ-ing of +15dB may increase the average impedance at lowish notes of the instrument to rather 8 Ohm thus will cause large Ohm mismatching although there is nominal matching!

The impedance peak with ported cabs is way smaller thus decent bass EQ-ing has got only little effect to average impedance.

If you were to pair a 110 and an 810 - which I think we can agree is a degenerative case - if you didn't match impedances you'd never even hear the 110. As it is, even with matched impedances the efficiency of the 810 will probably bury the 110.

All I am saying is do it this way if you want. There is absolutely no requirement to do so. People post as if you'll hurt something unless you make the smaller cabinet a higher impedance than the larger one, and that simply isn't the case. Just mind your power settings and listen to your cabinets, the smaller of which will be *easier* to hear if it's getting the same power as the larger.

In your opinion. Depending on the cabinets and the drivers one may want the 210 pulling the same load as the 410.

You guys post this like it's science, but it's really just an opinion, and depending on the cabinets used may not be the best way to go.

While with the most hated combination 410+115 it's tonewise (often) beneficial to have matching cab impedance although power distribution to drivers is uneven.

With the 410HLF it's tricky anyway to suggest (proper) impedance for an extension cab cause efficience of the 410HLF is rather small. An rather average efficient 210 cab 8 Ohm should provide plenty SPL to be good noticed versus 410HLF. While a 4 Ohm 210 might be to pronounced versus the 410HLF thus the 410HLF would take the part as "supporting" cab for the 210.

With the V2 (guitar) amplifier, Yes.
way better efficience than 410HLF, sealed cabs are less "delicate" with tube heads anyway.
Draw-back of less low-end of the cab likely doesn't matter cause the V2 is a guitar amplifier thus can't amplify lots of low end anyway.
Even the svt as pedigree bass amplifier is already down appro -3dB powerwise at 40Hz
