OK I have narrowed it down to these two 15" cabs..

I have been wanting a 15 to complete my rig since I got it... I am using a GB S6 with a Schroeder 1212L.. and I like the setup.. but I wanted to add another cab to fully utilize the amp and to just round out the sound and give myself more flexibility and I was thinking of a UL15 of some sort.. I have narrowed my choces down to these two cabs..

Epifani UL2-115 $699

Markbass Traveler 151P $599
* Impedance: 8 ohms
* Speaker size: 1 x 15"
* Power Handling: 400W RMS (AES Standard)
* Bass port: Rear

* Frequency Response: 40Hz to 18kHz
* Sensitivity: 100 dB SPL
* Weight: 37.3 lbs.
* Dimensions: 23.39"W x 18.3"H x 17.05"D

I am leaning toward the Epiphani though... I dont think the 5.7 lbs will matter much in the weight.. but the specs look a little better on it .. at least to me.. but I have no experience with either manufacturer.. As I said.. I have been out of the loop for so long on the technical side of all this till recently that I am pretty much newb.

What do some of you guys who have been dealing with this stuff all along think? I definitely want something light... My Schro is 42lbs.. so the 43lbs of the E is not too bad.. and that would basically wind up being my rig.. I figure with a rig like that i could play just about anywhere that I would have to go from a park to a large auditorium..

Are you sure a 15 is what you want?

If you just want more low end why do you think it has to come from a 15?

A word to the wise: mixing driver sizes and brands will lead to unpredictable results. You could easily spend a chunk of change and not like the results at all.

Why not email Jorg Schroeder and see what he would recommend for adding some booty to your rig?

You really owe it to yourself to try the new Peavey VB-115. I saw this cab at NAMM and thought it was smokin. I used to have a BW Peavey cab and always thought it was indestructible. I think it's in the $600 range.

In my personal experience, splitting my signal between cabinets of unlike driver size has consistently produced less desirable results than by adding more of the same. I have theories as to why this is, but not the technical authority to make an argument. Still, I would strongly consider adding an additional 1212L to get "the most" from your amp, as I can say fairly confidently that although it seems intuitive that adding something you DON'T have to your rig will add versatility, it is not necessarily the case.

A pair of 1212Ls should get silly loud and be able to handle all of the lows you feel like EQign in.

Perhaps I will.. and no I am not sure if that is what I want... :) That's why I am posting here to run all this by people who know way more than I do about this ...

Actually, the fEarful design is pretty locked in. The 15" is a Eminence 3015LF and the 18 Sound 6ND410. The cab is built around those speakers. The wood is 1/2" light ply wood. Fairly simple, and the design lays out all the details. GB has also designed a crossover for use (although you could use whatever you want).
My thought is that any of the 15/6 designs out there suffer by way of putting a different cab on top though.

Hmm that's interesting.. What do you mean by suffer... and let me get this straight... I have been looking around here... and am I to understand that GB actually designed the 15/6 cabs that LDS and some others like Barefaced Bass are selling.. ?

I think with two 1212s you are more likely to get more of the same.

I truly believe the 15/6 (or one of the GB designs) is the way to go. They can handle immense low-end eq'd in and sound damn good doing it.

From my experience adding a bunch of low eq into a schroe is just not an overall good thing IMO. It just did not sound like the natural thing to do.

Yeah I had.. actually that was my first idea when I started on this rig upgrade thing a few months ago... and SWR WP 400 with a go light 210 & 115.. but I wanted something really light ad the SWR was not it..... I have been in contact with Don from LDS because I am liking what I am reading about those LDS cabs from the specs and from others who have used them here.... but this thread: To Mix or Not to Mix and this thread: Mixing Cabinets and Phase response have got me rethinking this whole thing... I like the price and size of the 15/6 that Don was talking about.. it is actually lighter than what I have now.... I might just get it anyway... and try it.. and wind up selling the Schro if I don't like the sound... but that second thread I linked by Ivan Mike really did a good job of explaining to me in a way I can understand what some of the potential issues could be and why they would be.

Well after looking around.. I am still liking the LDS 15/6.. and the price was good too... as I said I may just get the cab.. try it.. if I don't like it I may just sell the Schro..

First of all, I see that you are using a Genz Shuttle 6 with a 1212L. I've used that same rig (except mine was a 1212R) and I very much found it lack in the lows. Both your amp and your cab are not strong in the lows so overall the tone is on the anemic side.

You might just consider buying an amp with more inherent low-end as an option. But really the 1212L will still not likely give you a ton of low-end.

I'm 90% sure you'll love the 15/6.

The only problem I can see is that your amp, the shuttle 6, will not fully drive the 15/6 to its potential. My band is not what I would call loud and 300w at 8 ohms will not cut it IMO/IME.

So maybe order a 12/6 as well and sell the schroeder?

Or maybe sell the shuttle and the schroe and get a 15/6 and an amp capable of some heavier hitting wattage... perhaps 500w at 8 ohms.

That is if you are into spending a bunch of money. If you want to spend as little as possible try buying a Tech 21 VT Bass pedal from GC and see if that beefs up your current rig's tone. I bet it does. If it doesnt satisfy, you can always return the VT to GC within 30 days and not have lost any cash.

Another option is to buy a poweramp to match up with your shuttle and sell the schroe to fund it.

The carvin DCM1540L gives alot of bang for the buck:

That would give you a shuttle as a preamp driving a 1500w power amp into a 15/6. You'll never need more power (any more than that and you should be in the PA) and your whole rig will weigh about 65LBS. That would be a nice rig.

Hmmmm yeah.. lots to think about with this.. I see your points.. I am getting a grasp of all this.. Thanks for all your help.. and thanks to everyone else in this thread too.. I have been picking up a lot of good info here @ TB over the last few months...

I am curious.. If my amp is rated @ 375W @ 8 ohms.. and I have a 8 ohm cab rated @ 550W I read somewhere that for bass it was good to have 50% more in the way of speaker to amp power... I also use a Zoom pedal.. would that suffice as a suitable substitute for the Sans Amp pedal.. Still working through all this... :hyper:
