For Am Special, Candy apple + maple neck + black pickguard is Really HOT Sexy.

For Classic MIM 50P, Sunburst and Honey Blonde + maple neck = Your Handsome grandpa bass. (^_^)

Am Special Slim C neck is close to your MF p or CV 60P, really comfortable.
Classic 50P, to thick for my small hand.

* Am Special Neck truss rod adjust is FAR easy compare to Classic 50P.

I know it's not on your list but....Have you tried a G&L SB-1? It's a Leo Fender design as well.

I didn't read all 6 pages, so this has probably already been pointed out. I've owned both, and the main thing you need to consider is the neck. The '50s Classic has the 1.75" nut width, while the Am. Special has the 1.625". Doesn't sound like much of a difference, and it IS very easy to adapt to either.

My personal opinion is that they're both excellent P's. I absolutely loved my '50s Classic. But when I picked up the Honeyburst Am. Special (I got both of them used by the way), I eventually sold my Classic. But only because I absolutely love the neck on the Am. Special. They both sound great though. I do miss the old Classic sometimes, but for ME, I made the right decision. I think the '50s Classic was better-looking, but they're both attractive. Here they are:

One you might want to consider, the Fender American Special Nitro Satin Precision, I got one last year from GC, now MF is selling them. It kicks my Highway One's @ss, the pickup is loud, bright if you want, and plays great. And it's not buried in 1/4" of polyawfulness. I don't take mine out much, I don't want it to get beat up. I think it's pretty nice looking.

Wow they both are beautiful. I just bought a 50's P off of a guy on TB. Its Sunburst with the gold pickguard. I will take pics when I get it. The pickup on the one that I bought has been upgraded, so we will see how it sounds.

Well then it looks like I am going to have the Handsome Grandpa bass lol because I just scored one off of TB for a great price.
