Yeah, I'm much the same. I'm not wallowing in a pit of despair over the holidays; It's just that my own disassociation from them meant I learned to place my positive focus & efforts elsewhere. Add in the over-saturated, commercialized hype that has come to surround "the season" since then, and I don't feel much of an impulse to wade back into it.
But I would certainly never knock anyone else's genuine enjoyment of their own observances. So long as it does no harm to others, folks are free to tinsel themselves silly, and that's fine.
I don't care for Christmas either. It's a commercial holiday, not a religious.
Encouragement. It's always good to remember that Xmas is 24 hours and it is over.

Yup, I feel the same way. My family is not close,we rarely
talk or see each other. Rather hang with my friends.

No need to keep your nose out of it...you have as much right to your opinion as anyone else.
I actually see this thread as more of a bashing of Christmas, but I guess it's just a matter of perspective.
I figure there most likely won't be any really new perspectives shared at this point, so I'll just say to all...

TV & Radio programming
Traffic
Deliveriies
I try not to order anything between Thanksgiving & 01-Jan, & it is an inconvenience.
Almost forgot about the crowd in shopping areas, but if you read my previous posts you'll see I found a way around that.
I hate crowds year-round!

I think this is what people who love xMas believe about those of us who'd rather just see it over with, LOL!
We're all gloomy Guses or sad-sacks, but it's just not always the case.
BTW, you're always on the wrong end of the debate if you're on the side that dislike it, because most have been trained to love it.
I started my own thread like this a couple of years ago on a forum full of guitar-players & you guessed, it went over like a lead balloon!
I was out of the country for decades & was shocked at just how bad it has become. Others have had it sneak up on them year by year, but I got the full-force of the shock of how greed-driven things are.
The part that I can't figure out is why the public has fallen for it, must shop, must buy, must consume!
I'm working on that, LOL!
If they're enjoying it, that shouldn't be an issue with anyone else. It's the miserable bit I'm on about, being Grinchy about, the people who are stressed out to keep up with it all, because they've been trained they MUST.
We are hunter and gatherers by nature, since we no longer need to for survival we do it on products.
We hunt for new items and collect them in our house and closets.
"Check out this Elk I got." with the praise given to the Hunter in words like "We will be eating good this week." has been replaced with, "Check out these new shoes or bass I got." and the praise we give to the Modern Day Hunter. "Neat shoes or bass."
People crave the hunt and praise for their score.
I love the season, and I have a lot of fond memories of it from my childhood. The lights, the gifts (more the giving than receiving now that I’m a bit older with nephews), the seasonal traditions, time off with family, etc...
The gift buying aspect of it is a bit commercial and can be more stressful than fun at times, but it’s awesome seeing the younger ones enjoy it so much.

At least the holidays have encouraged me to play my own music in the automobile more.

Getting caught up on TV shows as well, while they're showing re-runs & xMas specials.

Christmas here in the U.S. can be an imaginary day where everything is wonderful and perfect. Never mind Uncle Harry peeing in the Christmas tree stand. All the hype about the "magic" of Christmas and blah, blah, blah, is just that, hype. It leads to unrealistic expectations and let downs when reality doesn't measure up. My house is not a perfectly decorated winter wonderland like you would see on HGTV and even if it was that wouldn't make me happy. There is a good chance no one will be moved to tears by the gifts I have bought them and the kids may not even know what gift is from me and Mrs. slo.
For me, I do my best to enjoy the good food and company and try not to let my opinionated brother-in-law bug me.

My wife likes to do the "feast of the 7 fish" European dinner on Christmas Eve. We have some family over, relax and enjoy the evening.
We don't go nuts over presents, although I always try to find something special for my wife for putting up with me all these years.
