I think it is a 1966 Kingston--a close cousin to the Kent fine family of Japanese basses from the mid-60s. Body and neck are probably mahogany. Worth every cent of the $50 plus shipping, IMHO.

That thing is actually pretty frikkin cool, if you ask me! I'd rock it (with new strings, a quick setup, and electronics working). Nice score! Those pups look interesting- are they gold magnet bars, or is it just cosmetic, with the ubiquitous Japanese single-coils under them?
