I never compare myself to other players.. If I did I would have quit long ago.. there are some 15 year olds out there I have seen who play circles around me..

I don't believe everything I see on the internet, but I believe she's a pretty incredible player.
I wish it were just 15 year olds, I think there's some 10 year olds out there who could probably smoke me!! But i love it, love seeing younger players push the envelope and continue to stretch the instrument!

Say what you like about metal, the bands that are good at it are highly skilled and very tight. Personally I prefer music that grooves, but I respect the skill. And I am disgusted by the parents that let their kids focus on playing bass over going to school

That video does nothing for me. I have never been impressed by how many notes someone can fit into a measure. I find Jamerson, McCartney Boz Burell and John Deacon to be much more interesting.
I would feel pretty self confident in knowing that with all those chops you can still sound like a muddled mess. Fine line between genius and garbage. Reminds me of "Alcholocaust" by the band "Behold...The Arctopus". Lots of notes...pretty much waisted.
Can't argue now. F'n amazing - musical too - she's actually enjoyable to listen to - she's playing, not just running around - obviously gifted to the extreme. Sounds like she'd give Jaco a run for his money. Gotta wonder what playing against someone like her would have pulled out of him.
As far as the OP bassist goes... mehh it sounds like noise to me with all the growling from the vocalist.. Mohini Dey is the real deal though. Just amazing...

I prefer nice guys and girls who drive their family or friends home and have fun and communication going on while doing it against the fastest Formel I driver on planet earth. And that's the way I wanna play bass. And if I had the genius of Jamerson it would feel like every next second we make an accident, but we never will and everybody in the car feels save but never bored. Guys like the one in the video are just boring: Play 3 notes or 1834838438 notes a second, but please touch my soul or give me something to think about.

Paul McCartney can't play like her either, but he's still done ok writing a few good tunes.
If you are talking about a bassist... I disagree.... A songwriter? Sure... but from my understanding at this point she is more bassist than sogwriter.. at least in the traditional sense.. with lyrics..... You are talking oranges and grapes though.... We still do not know what Ms Dey can write...... she is only what..18? Not only that ... based on some things I have read about her who knows how her career may go.....
She started when she was very very young. I imagine coming from a background where practicing a lot was encouraged. I wouldn't be surprised if her family were musicians.
You can do a lot when you start out in the right environment. Same with Jaco and people like that.
Not taking anything from her obvious talent, but these people are not representative of the reality most of us know, and I wouldn't listen to that kind of music. It doesn't speak to me.
Well, good. To be honest, I didn't enjoy it. Maybe it's just that it's not my genre, and I can tell that, of course, he's been practicing very hard to be able to do what he's doing. I certainly wouldn't pretend that I could do it. But I didn't hear much musicality in it, and with the background track playing and the tone he set, there were times I couldn't tell what was him and what was the track.
Maybe not fair, just totally different, but it made me think of others I prefer musically, like Grant Stinnett -

Talk to a concert pianist or violinist about that - you might learn something - you need to.
And notice that she's not playing from a sheet - she's playing from her head - how much was written and how much is improvised on the spot, I don't know, but I think you can be certain that anybody who can play like that can also write if they decide to do it.
While you're educating yourself, you should check this out. No crazy youTube chops, but IMO more impressive than the other stuff that was posted. She's a wunderkind, no question about it. She's a KID up there playing with adults who have devoted their lives to music at the highest levels - and they all know that she is amazing.
