OKC tornadoes

Moore has had 3 tornados since 99.

I was living in Wichita Falls, TX when Terrible Tuesday happened. At that time, it was considered the costliest tornado in US history. It is now ranked 5th. That tornado was 3 that converged into one and swept a 1.5 mile wide path through the city and then split into 5 and kept going.

I remember whole neighborhoods of just concrete slabs left. No rubble. Just slabs.

It was part of the Red River Valley outbreak in 1979. Invalid Link Removed

I can't stand tornados. Vicious, vicious destruction.

Been lurking here for a while, but I never expected a post like this to be my first one here.

I live in Edmond, a north suburb of Oklahoma City. Moore is a south suburb of OKC, so today's massive tornado missed my area by 25 or 30 miles. (Yesterday's tornado missed my house by less than a mile, but it was very mild by comparison) The devastation here is mind-blowing. So far tonight we have 51 confirmed dead, and at least 7 of them elementary school children, with at least a dozen or more still missing, possibly in the collapsed school.

This is the third tornado to go through this same area in the last few years, starting with May 3rd, 1999. As much as I dislike my home state (home of Jim Inhofe, dumbest senator ever), one thing I know is we're tough, and we take care of each other, but anything anyone can do to help would be welcome.

TEXT BASED DONATION INFORMATION: STORM to 80888 for The Salvation Army USA. REDCROSS to 90999 for Redcross, or FOOD to 32333 for Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma. Each text is for $10 charged to your phone bill.

That's the information I've gotten from all of our local news stations. Hopefully those work for people not in our local calling area. Anything anyone can do helps, and if you can't, well wishes for anyone you know from here helps with morale.

Thanks for reading

I took this photo on my way through Moore today.

I left work in South OKC at 4:30pm. I got home in Norman, 17 miles away, at 10:30pm.

I took this photo a few weeks ago in Norman:

I remember thinking it wouldn't be spring in Oklahoma without a little bit of this stuff.

More storms are in line for tomorrow.

I live 1/2 mile south of the area the tornado hit. I have several friends and family members whose homes were completely destroyed and my church is directly across the street from Plaza Towers Elementary school where many young children were killed when the building collapsed. I am just in total shock right now - so thankful that my family is safe, but grieving for those who lost loved ones. It feels like a scene from movie to be honest - hard to imagine that its real. Please keep the people of Moore in your prayers.

So tragic and bizarre!!!

I was there one week ago today (Monday) to reunite with and pick up a dog I lost four years ago (neat sad story with a very happy ending!). However, the family that had my dog, I'm positive they've lost their house, and I know that two of their young children went to that school that was demolished.

I can't imagine what's become of them!

Lifting up prayers for that family and all of the people affected!! Looking into the best way to help through donations or physically helping.

I'm heartbroken for Oklahoma.

It's impossible to describe the damage from a powerful tornado so that someone can understand it who hasn't been there. The photos and videos are inadequate.

It's like an alien monster swooped down from the sky and utterly shredded everything you know. You don't even recognize your own neighborhood. You are lucky to even be alive. You are shell-shocked and in disbelief at what you see.

I've lived in Oklahoma my entire life, and you get used to the storms, but never the destruction or loss of life. Thoughts and prayers go out to all affected by this, especially the parents of the young children killed at the elementary school. We have a young son in the 3rd grade, so that hit pretty close to home.
