Old Ampeg SVT410 Cabinet

Years ago I picked up a ratted out Ampeg SVT 410 cabinet for a super deal. Tolex all ripped to crap and the grille is garbage. Pretty much bought it just for the speakers which I am now using in one of my GK cabinets.

Can't find any information for this specific cabinet. This is an old SVT 410 (not the newer "HE" or "HLF") manufactured during the SLM era. it is non-ported and had four 10" drivers (32 ohm x 4 parallel = 8 ohms) and no tweeter.

I was wondering if anyone had any experience or knowledge of this particular cabinet they could share? I am guessing it is simply half of the venerable SVT810?

It is all torn down now with the old tolex removed and sitting in a closet for the last couple years. Thinking about a total rebuild with new speakers and recovering in denim or some other cool fabric. I'd like it to have 4 Ohm total impedance (4 x 16 ohm wired in parallel) and be good for around 700 watts.

Any good recommendations for what sort of speakers I should use and should I add in a tweeter?

I used to have a couple of those cabs. They came with a 1987 Skunkworks SVT that I purchased used a while back. Those cabs preceded the current SVT410 HE that has the horn. The dimensions of your 410 is the same as the current model if it was turned on its side - it is wider and shorter. This was cool for me because I used to use one of them with a vintage V4 - which did not over hang on that cab like it would on most 410 speaker cabs.

Another good thing about that era cab - it is plywood - not sob like the later models.

I second the motion on putting new speakers in the GK cab.

Why not use the speakers that came with it, and get new ones for the GK?

I guess that could be an option as well. These speakers (I'm guessing Eminence OEM 32 Ohm) are a close match to what I have in my first GK cabinet and I was wanting a stand-alone 4 ohm cabinet.

Good luck getting 700w into a 410. I don't even think the newer neo speakers could do that. Best you could hope for before fartout is about 400-500w.

Perhaps not. Maybe I should look at the specs of some of the other speaker cabs out there! LOL

What I was looking for was a setup that would provide a maximum amount of headroom from my amp while running at 4 Ohms.

Also, trying to get a feel of whether this cabinet was worth jacking with in the first place! LOL

Heaven knows I am not hurting for speaker cabs right now! Would actually like to get rid of some of my crap and get a nice 1 x 15" combo (200-300W max.) for cheap!
