old cravin amp speaker issue

Hey I got this Carvin pro bass 200 and the speaker was fine the 5 times at the shop, played at home today no issues, regular volume, never past half. Anyways, it suddenly started making a crackle sound on every note, more like distortion a bit, left then came home and it stopped, then started again and wont stop. ????????? What should I look for?

To start?

1) Dirty pots
2) An electrical short

make sure it's not your instrument cable, try a different one before digging to deep into the amp

That stuff seems good, thanks you guys, but check it out. I didnt notice this at first, but then saw along one side of the dome of the speaker, its separated from the cone, just ungluing I guess, it comes and goes, if it comes back and I hold my finger with a little pressure in that spot the noise stops. So now what??????

Alright I found info on re sealing the cap. Hope thats all it is.

You may have to remove the speaker and check the wire connections. Carvin uses a slip on spade lug. It can loosen up over time and cause intermittent crackling.

I think so too, now I just need to find a moment when I dont want to play it long enough for the glue to dry lol.

Better find it rather sooner than later, the dustcap serves a vital function. Just as the name implies.

You do eat or sleep ocassionally? .
