Amps...Get off my LAWN! "Grumpy Old Farts"
I too am facing the great abyss here in several years and I'm in your same predictament. Here's something to consider.
Once you get to retirement age, you won't have the income to buy what you need and you'll have to settle for what you have.
So yes, replace your Trace with Eminence Neo speakers and call that good. Then save the cab for a backup. Then hear me out.
The next big consideration, er, the 800 pound gorilla in the room, is weight. Your gear weighs a ton, and as we get older, we usually aren't in the bands that have a bunch of groupies and roadies willing to haul our heavy stuff around anymore. So I came to the conclusion that while I'm still financially able to, I'm going to buy top of the line stuff that will allow me to continue to make a big racket with the least amount of back strain. Here's what I'm building: 1) I'm getting a new micro amp, 500-1,000 watts. I've been looking very carefully and considering all my options. These little tone monsters are now available by most every main vendor out there, but what comes to mind is: Gallien Krueger MB500 or MB800, Gallien Krueger Fusion series, Fender Rumble, Ampeg PF series, Mesa Boogie D800, Kustom, just to name a few. These amps will put out killer volume and weigh under 10 pounds, some of them only 5.
Part 2) Cabinets. This I know is what will give me the grief in the future if I need a full stack to keep up with larger sized clubs. There are many options to buy NEO cabs that weigh 1/4 of what your Trace Elliot weighs and put out a tremendous amount of air. Coming to mind are Gallien Krueger, Mesa Boogie, Fender Rumbles, TC Electronics, and my particular favorite: the AudioKenesis. I'm so excited I ordered an AK H1203, it weighs 25 pounds and two stacked can generate great volumes. And

AudioKinesis Cabs Part VI...
Now, having said all this, if your current budget won't allow this, take a look at the Talkbass For Sale thread for amps. You will find some amazing deals on used equipment. Many amps that are perfectly working and looking new are sold because the bass player doesn't like the style or sound. Each amp has its own character. But your body will thank you in the long run if you move to the lighter cabs and micro heads, even if you can buy them used.
Then restore your cabinet and leave it in the garage or basement as a backup. But get out there and try out as much of the new stuff as you can. And bring your bass.
Good luck, keep us posted, and welcome to Talkbass!
EDIT: I acknowledge I should have left it to @BassmanPaul and
@B-string to extend the invites. I don't want them to get grumpy at me!
