Old Eden Cabinets

It looks like I can get some old time Eden cabinets for fairly cheap. Two of them have 1-15 and one has 2-12.

Is the old gear as good as the newer stuff? I'm not sure the model numbers, but they look pretty old.

Any input would be appreciated.

I've got an Eden 2x10" that is at least 15 years old and still sounds great. I think that the 2x12" configuration isn't that old - but I am certainly not an expert on Eden.

As long as they haven't been abused, they're generally very close to the current models.

You can replace the crossover/jack panel if you want Speakon connectors. Or use a 1/4" speaker cable. Or get a cable with dual-banana on the end.

The older cabs were rear ported....newer cabs are front ported....newest cabs have Neo speakers.
If their in reasonable condition and at a good price and you've played through them and liked what you heard..........jump on them!

I love them, specially the very front porty 8X10 XLT they used to do.

Unfortunately somebody else jumped on them faster than me. Probably for the best that I didn't get them. My wife is already complaining about all the stuff I have.

Check the exact model number on the control plate. I've never seen a rear-ported 2x12 from Eden. The model name is pretty good at tellng you exactly what you're getting.

"D" means "David Series" which is what David Nordschow called the cabinets he designed for his own company when he started Eden. Could be a joke aimed at the earlier cabinets he designed and built for SWR, which were called Goliaths (see 1st Samuel chapter 17).

Next, it tells you the number of speakers, and their size.

410, 212, 115, etc.

The letters afer the numbers tell you about the porting and design. A "T" means it's got a tweeter. "XL" means "extended lows" and and "XS" is the flatter, more "hi-fi" cabinet design.

A D410T is a lot different from a D410XLT, and those are different from a D410XST.

My favorite speaker cabinet combination ever was a D410XLT on top of a D212XLT. Big fat bottom without either mush or muddiness, and a great big fist in the midrange. Covered everything from R'n'R, funk, blues, real country, and was perfect for intimidating drummers.

I never put that together, -good stuff!!
