Old Johnson body

Someone give me an old Johnson P bass body , do you think before I get into it, is it worth stripping down repaint it, put another neck on and some decent pickups. I can't find what wood its made from, I could strip the paint off but i don't even want to that if its not worth the effort. If i have ask this question before, then for give me.

I have an old Johnson

Hey guys I made a big mistake, I have the neck from the bass I thought was a Johnson. Someone tried to make a fretless and did a decent job. But I got to looking at the head stock and if you looked real hard, it said Austin on it. Are the better then Johnson, I could have swore he said it was a Johnson bass.
