Crap, all the moneys been dished out already that what I get for not reading the whole thread.

Well maybe ya'll can still donate it to Malcom X when everyones tried it out. :D

>>>since he brings up the cost in that comment, i wonder how much it would increase the cost to use a pickup template for the routing? or to run a 10 cent sheet of sand paper over the body? or a ruler or straight edge for the straight parts? we're not talking "conklin markup" here, are we?<<<

LOL!!!!!!!

It sounds kinda dumb to me. Why would I pay money for a bass and not even be able to play it, and worst of all give it to JT. I mean cmon, Doesn't he have enough basses as it is ( :D ) IMO of course. Do what you want with your money, its not mine.

what are you talking about? didn't you quit to do your homework? ;)

the deal was, for those of us who don't want to read the whole thread  :D , that we all contributed some money, and then we all would do a review. i didn't get the bass, i just played it some. it's going to move on to some other folks soon. i think.

i calls it like i sees it. i tried not to base my gripes on aesthetics - those are different for everybody. functionality was my big deal in my review.

on a different, but related topic, that story of his is excellent! i read _a lot_ (2 or 3 books a month) and he's as good a writer as any other i've read. shoot, if he has more work of this calibre, i'd rather read that than stephen king, for instance.

I'm enjoying his story too.
it strikes me that Wishnevsky's personality is more suited to writing, painting and sculpting rather than luthiery-
all the tedious repetitive tasks like fretting, setups, rubbing down bodies, routing don't seem to be in his nature.
he claims his instruments are "paintbrushes" but they come accross more as attempts at modern art than practical, functional tools.

My Wish Bass update.
I ordered a fretless 4-string bass in Nov. 2002.
Wish said it would take 4-6 weeks to complete.
4-months later my bass was shipped.
Bass was damaged by UPS during shipping.
[ Neck broken off]
Wish said he would replace free. upgrade to 5-string fretless no charge. better wood upgrade.
Nine weeks later my bass arrived.
Ash core body wood
Mahogany top and back
Mahogany neck
Jacota finger board
Single cutaway style
Single Ken Armstrong pickup
Pros-
Good setup
bass plays and sounds good
very well made for a wish.
Cons-
This is a BIG neck
3-1/4 in. at the nut.
4-1/4 at end of fingerboard
Think upright neck on a electric bass.
I have big hands an this is almost unplayable.
Must commend Wish for standing behind his product.
Nice Guy.
But can't understand how anybody would build somthing like this??????
May put legs on it and turn into table.
The sad thing is this bass sounds good??
