no, not at all - the pickup on that one would probably work relatively well, all other things being equal.

hopefully one of the future reviewers will take a closeup of the pickup to help illustrate what i'm talking about. the pickup was an emg select, about the size of a guitar humbucker , not a 'berger-bucker, but rather the smaller guitar pickups, iirc. looking at the bass head on, the e string was almost exactly parallel and directly over the edge of the pickup, so a substantial portion of the e string's vibration would extend past what i would assume the physical working range of the pickup.

The grain on that mystery wood looks a lot like Ash, which sometimes has a natural yellow hue to it.

Ugh. even w/ a piezo bridge, it's still hacked together. Wierd placement of strings on the 'board. Man, maybe someone can help him out w/ electronics and finishing? Can't fault him for basic ideas/trying. But man, quality is apparently job none.

Lets be fair folks he does say it could use a preamp.


It seems to me that the spacing from string to string should be less and the spacing from the edge of the fingerboard to the E & G should be greater.

I think its ash too.

Man, I really would rather have One amazing bass that does all that I need for my gigs... instead of 5 'One-trick-Ponies' that really all do that same 'one-trick.

really? wow. he said that? cool . at least he has a good sense of humour.

hey, folks can have whatever they want to have - for some folks the priorities might be different than they are for me. takes all kinds. i just calls em like i sees em.

since he brings up the cost in that comment, i wonder how much it would increase the cost to use a pickup template for the routing? or to run a 10 cent sheet of sand paper over the body? or a ruler or straight edge for the straight parts? we're not talking "conklin markup" here, are we?

Maybe a bit off-topic, but did anyone read some of Wishnevsky's novels? Maybe I'm an ignorant prick, but I read one titled "Granny Juice and the Nunnehi" and I enjoyed it a lot. Great story. From what I see here though, his luthier skills are not as good as his writing skills...

Yeah in the sig-line of his emails, he always mentions a book that he has written...

When I got my 'Wish-I-Didn't-But-This-Bass", he had a Folk CD in the Box that he shipped the instrument in... Oh gosh, it wasn't the most musical at all (our cat got really scare), but the lyrics were actualy well thought out...

Other than that,

I'm with you on the humour element JT... But he still needs to work on the construction quality... and yes it wouldn't cost what a Conklin goes for to do so... FBB, Read Customs and various other builders are VERY reasonably priced (some models less that a MM SR prod-model) and are very well built.

I'm a quality cat, not a quantity cat...

That's just me though...

I think we should let Xavier G be the tester. Then when he's done testing it, let him give it to one of those less fortunate kids that he's trying to obtain basses and amps for.

I think X will give it a very fair review, but more importantly we'd be helping out someone less fortunate than ourselves. All of us already own at least one bass, some have 12. So why not fork the thing over to a child who wants to learn but cant afford one. Just an idea.

I didnt read all 18 pages so if this was said already, then my hats off to the other people who thought of it and my bad for postin about it again.

wow. i've read up to the second chapter, it's very good indeed.

it's ironic that someone who so carefully and skillfully crafts his words would take such a different approach with his instruments.

I admire the sentiment, but this bass would not be the one for someone to learn on. I'd rather donate for an Essex or Rogue or something with at least a passing semblance to a functional bass.

This particular wishbass could ruin someone!

that's a noble sentiment, but i think you might want to read the thread many of the folks who have paid into this are interested in trying it out sometime soon.
