no, not at all - the pickup on that one would probably work relatively well, all other things being equal.
hopefully one of the future reviewers will take a closeup of the pickup to help illustrate what i'm talking about. the pickup was an emg select, about the size of a guitar humbucker , not a 'berger-bucker, but rather the smaller guitar pickups, iirc. looking at the bass head on, the e string was almost exactly parallel and directly over the edge of the pickup, so a substantial portion of the e string's vibration would extend past what i would assume the physical working range of the pickup.
