I've been a BCR guitar fan for years. After playing a friends Eagle bass I decided I needed one. I fell in love with his, played through a POD XT. Between the electronics in the Bass and the POD, the variety of tones and effects is almost endless. I just picked up new line 6 amp so I'm hoping for similar results :)

I've looked at a few American made BCR basses over the past year or so. Everything I've looked at is either way out of my price range or has some kind of issues :( I decided to pull the trigger on this MIJ, NJ series Mock to alleviate some of the GAS pressure for a while. More pics when it arrives ;)

It's a '83 neck through with Dimarzios.

I am also a big fan of the older BCR's. That's a nice grab you made there. These are only going up in value - people are finally coming around and realizing how well made they are (in spite of their being adopted by the metal guys in the 80's and getting the "spandex/metal only" rep). Here's my '80 Mock - one of my favorite basses:

That's a beauty!! I WILL add an American made one to my collection at some point.

do they all do stuff or are they just dummy switches?

They all do actually work. Looking at my Mock layout (sometimes they vary a bit, but mine has the original full compliment) top to bottom:
Top knob: Master volume
Creme Tip switch: Pickup Selector
Second Knob: Boost Volume - the switch next to it at 2 o'clock is boost on/passive
Chicken Head Knob: Varitone selector (works both passive and with boost).
Last Knob: Tone
Three bottom switches are a series/parallel for eack pickup and an in/out Phase.

There are definitely tones in here that I find unusable, but the ones that work are killer.

Good luck! A decent one can still be had fairly reasonably.

But expect something highly figured to get at least $400 more, and an all Koa (the most desirable) to get near $2k, more if they have the original form-fit Calzone flight case.

Like they say about everything else, if you wanted a bargain you should have bought it last year...;)

I'll keep an eye on the blue one. I really like to see them in person through. I'm about at my limit this month with 3 basses. I need to chill out for a while :ninja:
