Old school video games

I can tell for sure that the Atari era was one of the happiest in my life so it's hard for me to pick just a few ones, but I'll try to do my best. The ones in which my fondest memories are:

- [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] (The only one in which you had to use the Color/B&W selector to play, as far as I knew. The most interesting design IMO)

Back in the 80's I had an Asteriods game. My housemates and I got to be experts and could play for hours without getting killed. I'd love to have another one for my Den. It was simple, black and white but a very exciting game to play. Very complex sounds as well, shooting and asterioids blowing up :p

Another Asteroids fan :hyper:

I got "in the zone" once and topped out at ~4.5 million on one quarter :rollno:

My favorite arcade machine was "Track & Field". You competed in 6 different events. The javelin and the high jump were awesome, the hammer throw was hard as hell.

In the early 80's I also loved a little-known game called "Crazy Climber". You had to climb to the top of a building without getting hit by falling objects, and only using open windows. I pwned at Crazy Climber before "pwned" was even a word. Or whatever it is. :smug:

Wow! Almost forgot Crazy Climber.

I remember when track and field went to the NES and a guitarist buddy of ours could murder everyone in the running events because he would put one finger between the A and B button and rapidly rock between em while I was trying to use bass technique on it.

All time Faves ...

Galaga - a classic.

Tempest - a game that gets overlooked but was the bomb!!!

About some kids that hacked the Pentagon's codes or something like that? I saw the trailer but never the whole movie, man.

Yeah something like that. What I was referencing is the part where they have the giant supercomputer play its self in tic tac toe and everything starts flashing and smoking and its simulating game after game for a couple minutes then it comes back and says the only way to win is not to play.

I just find it funny that actually wrote so much AI for a game of tic tac toe that it took 20 minutes to make a move.

Galaga, Ms. Pacman, Spy Hunter, Asteroids, and Joust [edit: I forgot Centipede] probably took up most of my quarters. There were some others that I wanted to be good at but just couldn't hack it, like Q-Bert and Zaxxon.

In the case of Atari's TTT, the screen turned blank and displayed different colors in succession while "thinking". You knew you could leave and start doing anything else in the meantime if you wanted.

SNES: Earthbound, Harvest Moon, Secret of Mana and Legends of Zelda were all pretty, pretty, pretty good.

Sega Genesis: Sonic games and Shining Force II

Sega Saturn: The Horde

and did anyone ever play that Nintendo Virtua thing or whatever it was called? You look into these goggles and you would see 3D images, all in red lines? 10 years later and my eyes are still burning.
