Old SVT 2???

Hi guys! Looking for a new head, I was almost decided to get an Aggie AG500, but I've found an used 5-years-old SVT-2 pro (previous model) with new tubes, for the same price than the Aggie (but this one is new). What do you think? Does an used-old model SVT2 worth the money?

And would it match a Schroeder 21012 well? Or better another cab?

Thanks!!!

SVT-2 Non-pro is basically an SVT with a few bells and whistles. A completely different sound from the Aggy AG500. Let your ears decide this one for you, not which type of semi-conductors are in the signal path.

Also, should weight be an issue, the SVT2 isn't any lighter than a regular SVT. They're just rackmountable. Great sounding amps though.

I'd personally take the SVT though. All tonal preferences aside, you're pitting what was Ampeg's flagship at one point up against an amp that Aguilar created as a budget model.

I dont think he is talking about the non pro, they stopped making that about 12 years ago

The only thing the non-pro had that the regular SVT didnt was the graphic EQ IIRC, the preamp tube compliment is also different, but its apparently the closest you get to vintage SVT's (excluding skunkwork SVTs and the New SVT-VR's (id imagine) )

They really arent that heavy, the SVT 2 Non Pro is only 85 lbs and the 2-Pro is lighter at 70lbs (not including any rack you put them in obviously)

Yes, I'm talking about the SVT-2 pro. It's 5 years old, so it's the previous model, which I think is the same but with a different look. So I should forget about the SVP-PRO with the power amp? Is it too different from the SVT2?
No tube pre can capture what a tube power amp can do. There will not be too much difference at lower volumes, but when you crank the 2-Pro there will be a world of difference between the two.

The distortion is sweet tho, its more of a light overdrive just just sounds "mwah"

I still wouldnt say its a previous model as its the same thing tho :p

And id go for the SVT-2 PRo over the SVP+power amp, tho, there is a really nice setup on UK ebay right now

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7417529205

but you might not be able to get it sent, but damn, i want that, even tho it is just the pre+ power setup that i have in a single head unit

It's a nice amp! Like the svt2 but in pre+power amp?
That's the bad thing about the svp1500, it's solid state... but it's 1450 w briged, in comparision to the 300 w of the svt2pro... would the svt2 be as loud as the other? Obviously not, but, is it too loud??? that's what i'm no t sure about, that eventhought everybody says the svt2 sounds better, the svpprp + power amp has 4 times more power! stills worths the svt2? (i don't think that i need so much power, tho...)

The power rating on that amp is inflated. It's good for less than 1000 watts bridged, IME.

Don't be so quick to make that assumption. They're roughly equivalent to each other in volume. The SVP1500 isn't even any cleaner!

Like my SVT-2, not like a 2-pro

And trust me, 300 watt tube will probably be as loud as 1500 watt SS
