I wish I could afford both, but only one for the time being.
So the BW cab I pictured was for guitar?
Guess I was just looking for opinions on which one to get between the two shown.
My 1820 cab must be an early model with the triangular ports. It has been mentioned to me here on TB that it resembles more of an 1810 cab with its closer speaker placement inside the baffle, but it is clearly marked a 400Watt 1820 on the rear. I do agree it does resemble an 1810 cab (from memory the 1810 cabs were only 200Watt) more so than the later 1820's, but they must have redesigned the newer 1820 cab speaker placement after I bought this earlier model. Not necessarily guitar.
But wish I was more a expert on the peavey cab design I'm sure the info is out there.
Far as I understand triangle ports usually are older designs.
And have been known to be high tuned.
Speculation was it was literally pre Theile Small design and you cut a hole in the front and call it a port. Uncalculated they end up high tuned. Or speculated it was high tuned like the 12" cabs for guitar use.
Either way it's a excellent pair of drivers. And well well worth the 150 to 200 they go for these days.
Very possible they continued using the triangle design and used the 40hz tuning.
I just know from various threads we calculated port tuning. And it was high. Around 60 to 80hz
High tuned ports are common on pre 70s cabs of any manufacture or brand.
Theile Small design got popular in the 70s. Some of these peavey cabs can date back to late 60s
I can remember paying 190 to 230 dollars for raw Peavey drivers. Alot money in the 90s.
So it's a great deal these days to swoop up good drivers. And consider the cab a free benefit
I have both; I like both. I wouldn’t agonize over deciding between the two.Ha, now the balances have turned with more love for the Scorpion's. Like I mentioned there is only a $20 difference between them, but also one has casters pre-installed already. I'm still a little confused on the "guitar" talk before. Guess I am just trying to figure out what is the better overall cabinet between the two. Guess I have no idea for sure if the BW cab is the shallow version or not.
