They're out there. One of the most unergonomic bass guitars ever created.
Flying vs are tricky to deal with. I tired a v guitar and had to take it back the next day. (And then I got my first bass so something good came of it). Anyway you couldn't possibly be able to sit with this and it looks neck heavy. It is cool but is it really worth it?
Maybe it's just me, but I hate Flying Vs regardless of the number of strings. 
Gibson did them again recently in the cherry red finish
Epiphone did them in black as a limited edition

I just sold one of the recent "worn cherry" satin-finished versions (which I believe was a Guitar Center-only offshoot of the regular cherry red run). Very cool bass with a fat tone, but I had to clear up some cash after buying a custom Zon that fits my current needs better.
Black, white, and natural finishes. I've been wanting to pick up a natural one to match my Explorer. They're very lightweight - unlike the Explorer, which is another reason I want(ed) one.

Flying V's are meant to be played in classical position. They sit perfectly on your leg.
Hondo made one with Dimarzio's and bolt-on neck but it had their VERY NICE Fender P/J style neck on it.
A no name company made a cheap white(bolt-on neck) in P/J config with correct headstock. Looks great, needs work.
Greco , IMO, made the BEST one ever in neck-thru. Sounds amazing but the pickups can be microphonic. Pot them or replace them.

I have one of the standard (non-faded) cherry ones that came out a few years back. 30.5 scale, very lightweight and the TBird pups scream. Certainly not everyone's cup of tea, but a heck of lot of fun to pull out when my guitarist plays his V (we're old metalheads at heart).
I remember when I was in college, there was a music store that had a used natural one (I assume 70s era) for 450 bucks. If I'd known they'd be in the 4 figures today, i would have bought.
I normally love pointy metal looking guitars/basses(I own 3 BC Rich basses), but the normal "V" shape just doesn't look right on bass IMO... Now Explorer styles, that's a different story for me
Thanks, I thought that looked like a Guild headstock and logo. The body is much to big to be a Gibson too.
I once had a Gibson V guitar and an Explorer bass. Never really got on well with either of them, mostly because I hated the finished necks. The body shapes are just something you deal with when you buy one of those instruments.
