OMG Fretless Are Awesome

Hey TB so I got my first fretless Its the older VM Jaco Squire That had Ducan Designed PU with Alnico V magnets.. I bought some Boomers for it man I love this bass I havent been so happy with a bass for awhile.. I want to put a pickguard on it how do you feel bout that Im not a big fan of no pickquard.. And if Anyone have a sunburst with white pickup covers Ive seen them on P bassss and think it looks nice Id appreciate the input before I buy the parts But I love the sound wish I would ha e got a fretless sooner

I'd live with it for a bit before you mod - even if it's just a pickguard. You never know what you might grow to like, right.

I honk a fretless is a nice option to have. I play at church and find fretless works great there. Of course, so does my fretted that I used today. It's nice to have options, and a fretless doesn't necessarily have to sound like a fretless.

Lots of options with those two basses. Have fun.

Ya I agree my dad is a drummer and We just make stuff up bass and drums and the fretless allows me to come up with some really cool things and I upgraded the Fretted with CS60s and Sounds good too

Pickguard, shmickguard. I'd suggest working on getting your ears and intonation together. Doesn't matter what the bass looks like, if you can't play in tune, you're done.

Yeah, you'll enjoy it, Kaden. Like you, I don't care for the no-pickguard look. I think a pickguard sets everything off perfectly on a Fender-styled bass. On yours, I'd go with a 3-ply (black/white/black) black pickguard.

I tend to like a jazz without the guard but for that bass, a tort will look great. BTW I owned one of those and thought it had a great 'mwhaa' to it.

I just bought the exact same! I'm swapping the pups with some noiseless split coil nordstrand. I'll probably swap the neck out for something lineless, as well.

Yep! And a Squier VM fretless Jazz is what got me permanently back into fretless. I've modded mine to the point that the only original left is the body and it's my main player now. Welcome to the speed bumpless world!

I'm especially digging that old radio: I've a similar one that I inherited from an uncle years ago. I put a BlueTooth speaker in it and linked it to my iPhone to give it a second life.

Having a fretless is like having an extraordinary pet, for me. I can't bring it everywhere (cause I'm not that good yet) but it's a sweet tool to have to mess around at home and for practice
