I know this should be posted ideally in the double bass section but this area get a lot more traffic, I stumbled across this picture of Geddy Lee playing a double neck circa 1976-1979 and curiousity has got the best of me I am just wondering how much does one of these things cost if you can find one lol.

If you were to post this in the double bass forum it might prove rather embarrassing, as double bass is the official english language term for upright bass, bass viol, stand-up bass, doghouse bass, bull fiddle, etc.

Well, it's a rickenbacker, so to buy a new one today would cost you $83,000 USD, and would be backlogged sixteen months.

You could have a custom luthier make you an identical one for a few grand that would likely play and sound better, but then the ricktards on this forum would report you, and the Rickenbacker Emergency Response team would bust into your house late one night and set it on fire.

Back on topic (blessedly):

I have a pic on my wall of Ged playing a WHITE Ric 4080. Methinks he's rehearsing on stage or doing soundcheck because he's wearing his "civvies" instead of looking like he's ready to go on stage. It's a great B&W I got from a guy who used to take pics professionally. Who knows where he got it from; I'm pretty sure he DIDN'T take the pic.

So Ged has TWO of these monstrosities. Hope his back is holding out these days. :)

I don't think there were a whole lot of the 4080's made, were there? I agree, I hope he hung on to it. Although for songs that he used the doubleneck on like Passage to Bangkok or Zanadu he doesn't use it for anymore. I noticed on R30 that during Alex's solo in Zanadu he actually triggered samples of rhythm guitar via footpedals and kept playing his bass, which is actually opposite of what he used to do back in the day- play bass by foot and rhythm guitar by hand. Doesn't matter how he does it- Ged's still top notch in my book!
