OMG! I won an Aria Pro II SB-R150

Thanks to my wonderful wife I am now the proud owner of an Aria Pro II SB-150! She put a bid on it in the last 20 seconds without my knowledge. I have never owned an instrument of this quality, I'm currently a Squier Jazz owner. How lucky am I. :hyper:

Only slight problem is with the front pickup. I emailed the seller a few days ago and apparently the pickup is only half the volume of the other pickup, but I'm sure it's fixable. The other SB-R150 on there is £1200 so I think I got a decent bargain (£600). Now I have to look into getting the pickup fixed and I'm here asking for advice. Not sure what the problem is exactly, but hopefully it's not too difficult to sort out. Can't wait to get this bass!

Haha. I wouldn't fancy walking back with it, these things weigh a ton as far as I know! On the other hand, the body is chestnut with zebrawood on top on the R150. I know very little about these woods so maybe they are lighter than the usual ash SB's?

Hey, If I'd had the money I would've bid with 1 sec to go, lol. They look great, have an SBCB, RSB 800, and an Elite II, but really want that active, they're not as heavy in weight as some might suggest, I'm quite small and find I can carry it for the whole gig, the RSB 800 is certainly the heaviest I have. Guy in Japan has an SB R150 in zebrawood design, but he's not leting it go, damn, and double damn.

Well good luck, I hope you eventually get one. You never know, one might pop up when you're in a better financial position. I am very lucky -- I only had a couple of hundred £ to spare for a new bass with but my wife spent her savings on this. She knew I would have been sad to let this bass pass by and then totally surprised me by winning it. Originally I was looking to spend about half as much as the R150 cost. It was looking like Squier time again!

Thanks for the info about the weight. I don't mind if it's heavy, it probably contributes to the tone anyway. :)

I've never seen a reissue of this one. They reissued the SB1000. Looks great but doesn't use the original bridge. It's very expensive, too.

The SB-R150 was a step above the SB1000, I think it was right at the top of the SB range. It was only produced for a few years... 1981-1983? Something like that. The difference in cost was 100,000 Yen for the 1000 and 150,000 Yen for the R-150. This converts to around £1000, which in the early 80's was a very expensive bass! Good lord...
