On the floor or on a stand?

When using a single 115 or 112, I raise it about 18" when something is available, but I don't carry a stand. I do carry this high end two-way amp tilter-backer in my gig bag:

I raise my cabinet up onto a pelican case that I use to carry my Aguilar TH500. It saves me from carrying around a seperate stand/crate for the cabinet and is super sturdy. It also blends in on stage a little better than a milk crate.

I've used foldable stools and amp stands in the past and while they work well, it's just another bit of gear to forget.

So at 40hz, at 1/4 wavelength you'd have to move the cabinet 7ft from a boundary. The floor, a ceiling, a wall are all boundaries.
It can't be done in most situations.

If it were true all drummers would be put on super high platforms to keep the kicks from coupling.

Nah. I can think of several great reasons to put the drummer on a platform just short of the roof and out of sight but uncoupling the kick isn't one of them. A beater on a kick drum, before it's processed, isn't nearly the low end force that an amplified bass cab is. It's actually a weenie bump until the soundperson processes it.

Actually a kick drum that is tuned to make an actual kick sound all by itself is mighty loud.

But yeah. The PA is the thing pushing your chest in, and putting the drummer up on a tower is just dumb.

I use the folding wedge Stumbo mentioned for a Rumble 100. It was like 20 bucks and super compact. It folds up and slips into my shoulder bag. I really like it; seems to do the trick by pointing the sound up, and also decoupling the boomy bass from the floor.

How does it handle the vibration from the amp? Any impact on the sound?

Unless you're using a super light rig can't imagine it going anywhere. The sound is definitely more clear to my ears due to reducing the interaction with the room. YMMV.
