On the NYC Subway Today

I actually helped a little old lady into a supermarket today.
She reminded me of my grandmother. I was passing by & she just asked if I could help her in.
Once in the store she asked me to pull one of those smaller carts over to her, and off she went, holding onto the cart for support.

It's a good thing she asked me to get the cart, because they were stuck together somehow & I went through three of them before I found one that was free.

On vacation last year I went swimming with dolphins. One of the girls who was next to me started crying. She lost an ear ring while the dolphin was pushing her around. The dolphin people saw she was in distress, asked what was up, and then said they'll do their best to get it for her. They sent a scuba diver down and about 20 minutes later he came up with the ear ring. I was dumbfounded. We were in a roped off section of the ocean, but it was a HUGE roped off section and there was a lot of ocean activity, not to mention murky water.

The girl told us later that it was an incredibly expensive pair of ear rings (I think she said like $15,000) of her mothers that she begged to wear, that her mother somewhat reluctantly allowed her to. She was a happy camper when that guy came up with the ear ring in his hand.

I hitched from Boston to NYC in 1975. I had never been to New York before and I was staying with a friend in the Village. I got dropped off at a station somewhere and managed to find my way to Grand Central Station. I tried to ask people there how to get to the Village but most of them just kept walking and didn't look at me.
Finally a small older man told me he would show me how to get there. We got on the train and he talked to himself the whole time.
He had a mesh bag holding various things . He said "Think it might rain? Yes, it is going to rain." He then took every item out of the mesh bag one at a time and put them all in a plastic bag.
We arrived at the proper station and walked off. He told me he would walk me to the address I was going to on Bleecker St. The man was a walking history book. He told me all kinds of things about the Village as we walked through.
At one point he pointed to a house and said "You see that house right there. It was built by midgets. You can see how small the original door was."
I looked and it sure seemed like he wasn't making it up. To this day I don't know if it was true or not.
We arrived at my destination, shook hands and he was off. He was still talking as he walked away. I never saw him again. He may have been the rainman but I am grateful that he helped me find my way around.
