One Bass Bassist?

To state the obvious, all of our situations are unique. At this stage of my musical life, fewer instruments makes sense for me. It allows me to really focus on making serious progress as a competent musician. There are people here who have already crossed that bridge.

Financially, some have to scrimp and save for bare bones budget gear while others can comfortably afford multiple boutiques. The beauty is that we can all enjoy and make beautiful music. How we do it is secondary.

When I played professionally, I only had my Gibson EB-2. No way I could afford another bass, since the Gibson broke my bank (along with a Fender Dual Showman).

Years later when I was out of college and army and working in corporations, I bought a Gibson SG. It's lighter, more versatile and the EB-2 was just too pretty and scarce.

Years later a Ken Smith 5 and a Rob Allen MB-2 for fretless. Another 10 years and a Fender American Player Mustang with TI flats, a Sadowsky NYC 4 (maple neck and flats) and a Taylor GS Mini and I'm all set. Unlimited wealth and I'd add a rosewood neck Sadowsky NYC and another SG (for flats).

Would I ever take more than one if I were to gig? Only if I needed the fretless. Probably only bring the SG or Mustang otherwise.
