Looks like you could use some advice on how to create a useful survey!

Hey guys, the negative feedback doesn't bother me. Go ahead and flame away, it's all good. I didn't intend it as a scientific survey or a marketing tool. I made the deliberate decision that if some said "First Act" that's what I listed in the results even though I knew it was a joke. Same with brands that don't actually produce bass amps (i.e. CROWN). The dude said in his post that he doesn't use bass amps, and would instead use a DI into a Crown PA. Because Crown is LOUD and reliable. Okay, that's his choice so I included it. I have an MBA and know how to create a scientific survey if I had wanted one. This survey was for me and I got what I needed from it. And if anyone else shared or shares my interest in Brand prestige, reputation and preference, they have this list to refer to. Despite the quibbling about some of the less common brands, i.e. Whizzy, etc,. the bottom line is that the top five brands on both lists are not in dispute, and it wasn't even close. I would not have known how powerful MESA and GK and Ampeg are revered if I hadn't done this. Yes, I know those are quality brands but I didn't realize just how strong -- relative to all the other quality brands -- their reputation is among serious players. That was the point of the survey for me. I now realize that at some point in my life I need to try out a MESA or GK rig.

I don't know how good this survey is if allegiance to brands that no longer exist is allowed. Brands like SWR and Genz-Benz are no longer active. And is this allegiance to the original Acoustic Control Corporation or the recently rebooted Acoustic Amplification? If your premise is to inform current consumers, this survey includes lots of misinformation and misguidance.

Bass Cabs
Greenboy = fEarful/fEarless. Put them all together.
Sears, Hakko, Roscoe, NXT and Crown never produced bass cabinets.
I'm guessing that "Whizzy" is referring to a Euphonic model.

Bass Amps
Roscoe, Sears, Ryobi and Fodera never produced bass amps.
Schroeder, MAS only make cabinets, not amps: wrong tabulation.

Crown and QSC make power amplifiers that are sometimes used for bass. I don't know if that makes them "Bass Amps".

I think we all agree that the inclusion of First Act in any category is a joke.

Sears made some bass amps, boh tube and solid state.

I see this more or less as a popularity contest. Issue the same challenge two years from now and, although I do really like Mesa gear and they'd probably get my vote today, I bet you'd get different results.

The Eden EC10, EC15 and EC210 all use speakers with the whizzy cone for extended highs, thus I consider the entry as ambiguous.

Whizzer cone, didn't even know they made speakers like that anymore. I always thought it was a gimmick more than anything.

" Sears never produced bass amps". In 1971 Sears sold two outstanding amplifiers. The larger of the two was a 100 watts RMS solid state amp powering a cabinet with two 12s and two 15s. It was a great bass amp by any standard. The combo was 35 watts and a 15. It had great tone and was fairly loud, compared to other combos

AFAIK anyand all of the MI amps they ever sold were produced elsewhere and then merely badged as Sears product. But as always, corrections are welcome.

It would be interesting to compare peoples choices here with what they actually own and play.

I mean I'd love a Mesa but don't own one yet, maybe in the future but that's anyones guess at the moment.

"Sears made" was artistic license. I don't think Sears made anything, I know Danelectro made a lot of their guitars, a buddy of mine had one of those amp-in-the-case guitars and amp when I was a kid and compared to the Japanese piece of crap I had, the thing was beautiful, low action, flat neck and sounded great.

Silvertone was simply a badge for Sears and things sold under that name came from a number of sources .
Getting back to the poll results I was not surprised to see Mesa and GK topping the poll . I was surprised to see Bergantino rate as high as it did . It's a tiny company by comparison , more of a little quality boutique shop , but they have a surprisingly large base of fans .
I'm a longtime GK user that likes Mesa gear a lot , and is now a very happy Bergantino user and fan . Amp and cabs ...

I find it odd that 46 unique brands were mentioned, but "Crate" was not mentioned once. I owned a Crate cab in the 90s and didn't think it was that bad. But apparently it is.

It wasn't that bad. It was far worse.

I've only played one Harmony guitar in my life and it was a cheap piece of crap, I've always been surprised when people praise them, not anymore obviously but when I first started hearing they made nice guitars I was surprised.

Some of their 335 types are easily as nice as a decent but not spectacular Gibson...easily. But mine was a $57.00 special, new in '72, and an utter POS.

Those H22 basses are nice , I've played originals and reissues . If you're looking for a serious old school thump , they deliver .

I missed this poll, but would have voted for Mesa as well. I've owned and played a lot of different brands looking for "my" tone (well in this case tones) and I have finally found it with the Mesa TT800 and Subway Cabs.

I agree that brands currently active with new units should be criteria. Thing is, a good product can live on for years, even decades. It makes this sort of thing hard to nail down.

Kinda like requiring all kinds of safety or emission features on the manufacture of new vehicles; models made decades ago still work.

The GenzBenz legacy lives on . Genzler , and now Mesa .
