Not a big bread guy so I don't know. When I buy sandwich bread it's usually sourdough or rye, but I really like the occasional wedge of skillet corn bread with some shredded cheddar in the batter, baked until it's just on the verge of going from deep golden brown to black. That under a ladle of pinto beans with a thick slice of white onion to top it off and I'm a happy camper for the duration.

Aw man you had to do that. Can't get goodies like that in these parts if you're a millionaire. (sigh)

Whatever kind of bread Sal's in Astoria uses. I think it's semolina hero bread. Preferably with the cacophony of meat, cheese, veggies and sauces in between.

@Gorn Captain Trust me Gorn, you might be able to scare up mediocre facsimiles of most of that stuff, especially the meats, but all those Italian delicacies N. Easterners take for granted just ain't happening here. No Sopresata either. Can't get a genuine Mom and Pop sub or Pizza . You might not believe it, but you can't get the quality bread either in the South, unless it's imported.

It ain't right. If you're ever in town, the sandwich is on me.

Man, I haven't had a PB&J in I don't know how long. I usually just toast it and then slather it in butter, or make cinnamon toast. Buttery potato toast and chicken soup is the best for what ails ya.
