One cab, switching between multiple heads.

I have found myself with 3 different heads and one cab that I have in my studio. I would like to be able to switch between heads without re-cabling the speaker cable from each head to my "reference" cab. Plugging my bass into the input of each head is not a big deal but having to get behind the amps and run the speaker cable to switch heads is a hassle. I would like to A/B/C different sounds from the heads through the same cab easily. Is there some sort of switching device to facilitate this? I tried searching but came up empty.

That sounds very scary to me. To much potential for...maybe too much potential? I don't understand this enough though, but the thought of possibly connecting (even ever so momentarily maybe) 2 heads to each other during a switch sounds like a recipe for disaster. But again, I am a bit ignorant on this one - I am sure there are buffered switches though that can be made. I want to hang around and hear the experts here.

That is getting at the general issue of not wanting to get behind the gear everytime I want to switch heads. I suppose I will have to do some homework as to if they make one for speaker cables unless somebody here has already done the legwork.

you don't get behind it. you plug the patch cables in the front. you'd plug your heads and cabinet in the back and just let them stay like that.

One simple answer:
Ampeg selector switch

This is the unit that dealers had back in the day that allows you to safely switch between 2 tube heads and 6 SS heads and then another knob that allows you to switch between 8 speaker cabs; has 1/4" inputs and outputs
Have used it for 10 years without any problems and was approx $50 of eBay; saw one for sale about 2 months ago that went for less that $100
Also great for A/B'ing different gear
