One man’s trash…

When I woke up today I decided not to immediately start staring at my phone and instead go for a walk. About five minutes later I saw a case leaned against a tree with a nice red interior. Upon taking a closer glance I realized it’s a 70s Fender case all covered in stickers.

The handle was also covered in electrical tape because the stitching is damaged and gone on the top and there were 2 random cts pots from 85. Decided to take it home, removed the stickers and wiped it down. Not sure if I should try goo gone to remove the residue adhesive, could use some pointers on that. Anyway here’s some pics

My 84 4001v63 fits like a glove. The only fender i have is a player’s series and it looks weird in there.

Cool find! Can't be that hard to find a replacement handle I think? Maybe not from the 70s but something that's not held together with tape.

Also, if it's a problem that you're using it for a Rickenbacker just modify the logo to say "Finder"

If I found a $3000 bass leaning against a tree, I would first try to identify who is filming me and why. Failing that, a police report would be next step.

Edit: I see at the end of the post its your bass. Ill practice my literacy and return when Ive made improvements!

I doubt thieves would throw a 3-400$ case out but if someone reached out and proved it’s theirs I’d gladly give it back. However if you think I have the time and willingness to go to a NYC precinct and deal with them you’re dead wrong.

I would use a rag and "Mineral spirits" to remove the tape residual. Works like a charm and costs next to nothing. Won't harm wood, vinyl, paint, or plastic either.

Maybe the thief who stole the original bass dumped the case because it was too recognisable with all the stickers. Someone somewhere has lucked out I'll bet.

When I lived in NYC, I found a GK ML250 guitar amp in the trash when I was taking my trash out.

The speakers were shredded but the amp was totally functional. Replacing the speakers was a pain (so many little screws), but now it's my guitar amp.

People throw away so much stuff in NYC.

Were you in a neighborhood? Did someone leave it propped against the tree while loading up gear & forgot to grab the bass before driving off? Your neighbor might be looking for it lol

Motzenbocker's Lift-Off is the best adhesive remover I've found, and it hasn't affected any surface under the adhesive. That said, I'd probably not use it on most plastics. ACE Hardware carries it.
