One man’s trash…

Great find, but the stickers were kind of cool. I won't belabor the Ric in a Fender case if the case truly snuggles the Ric. 
Last night I was walking home from the grocery store and spotted a cutting board leaning against a fire hydrant. I picked it up and it weighed a ton. I could see it was made from exotic woods, but it was oxidized enough that I couldn’t immediately tell which ones. Turns out that this 1 1/2” thick board is made from strips of wenge, padauk, bubinga and some sort of mahogany like wood. I believe it to be someone’s wood shop project. The strips are just wide enough for me to get some fancy knife handles from it 
. ALWAYS keep your eyes open and I also look into most garbage cans I come across. I’ve found good stuff that way too.

Worked with a fella years ago that said he had a few guitar cases lying around and asked me if wanted if them since he knew I played music. He had nothing to do with music and was an IT guy that I don't think even listened to it lol. I was kind of crafty at the time, and the ex-wife was even craftier, so I said sure I'll take them off your hands thinking I'd make some wall art or she would paint them. He brought them to work the next day and we went outside to load them in my truck. I bout sh*t my pants cause there were two Gibson acoustic cases, and two Gibson Les Paul cases!!! Told him that I couldn't possibly take them for free and he should try and sell them on Craigslist or something. He declined and told me he just wanted them out of the shed of the house he just bought. I took them off his hands. One of them looked pretty ragged but clean at the same time if that makes sense. I worked on 4th and Commerce downtown Nashville, a block away from Gruhn Guitars (old OG location downtown). I took the more seasoned LP case down on my lunch break one day. Turns out it was a circa 1962 LP case that they considered in great condition! Told them the story and they wanted to buy it on the spot. I got $600 for it in 2004 dollars. Went back to the office and threw down three crisp $100 bills on my boys desk lol. I know I know, I took a 50/50 cut, but he almost refused to take what I gave him. I sold the other three cases online over the next couple years. The other ones were modern cases that were more mint, but think I made like around $500 total for selling the others. I moved to a different company when I sold those or I would have gladly given him some more money but we lost touch. Long story short, dude gave me four Gibson guitar cases for free and I netted around $800 in my pocket after I gave him $300 for that one case. Ultimately, the ex-wife mentioned earlier in the post got all that and then some, so guess I still didn't make a profit lol.

Awesome! I've done lots of dumpster diving, and you can find the most amazing g stuff.
Actually, I can't really go to the local recycling site anymore because it makes me sad seeing g all the perfectly usable stuff people throw away. I've even made quite a bit of money selling stuff I've found in the trash
One of my best finds was a broken floor fan. A giant brushed aluminum industrial thing from the late 60s or something. The head of the fan had broken off,but I thought I could take the fan blade and mount it on the wall, and use the stand as a cool mic stand. Turns out, all it needed was a replacement screw, and it works perfectly. Now it keeps my studio nice and cool in the summers. I love that thing.
Grats on your awesome find man! A case like that can be worth quite a bit too btw. Many guys out there have the 70s fender, but are missing the case.
And; you saved the environment, PLUS you saved a piece of musical history from rotting away.
