Not similar at all to me. Waaaay less mids and doesn't clash with the guitar at all.

Not to mention the impact they had on Cobain, and subsequently, everything that trickled down from Nirvana. It took me a while to get used to them, as I always turned to stuff on the 4AD label for the cobwebs and lace dream pop…the Twins and the dancing dead.

Yeah, definitely not a P Bass, and does sound very much like a Jazz to me, with both pickups on, way too mid scooped and farty for my taste.
J in the music video, although MVs often feature different instruments from the recorded version.
What is a P bass tone anyway? The 51 or 57 original PUs? Because since then there's been at least a hundred different P pickups from Fender alone, let alone from all the other manufacturers, both instrument and PU.
That's another thread entirely, and there are lots of them on TB. Aside from tonal variables like wood and strings, the P-bass tone is generally characterized by deep punchy lows, a strong midrange presence that excels at low-mids, and smooth highs... though pickup variations obviously affect this. The differences become clearer when compared to other pickup types like Jazz bass single coils or Stingray-style humbuckers, where you'll hear more substantial differences in the low end, mids, and highs than you typically find between different P-bass pickups.
It's like how various IPA beers have subtler differences bwtween them than IPAs hen compared to stouts or lagers, or how different Strat models vary less than how a Strat differs from an SG.

The pickups don't make a huge difference. Their position and instrument itself does
