SERIAL POWER CLEANING. Sure - it weighs more. But it costs a lot less. When I plug my mini head into a bunch of these daisy chained, I know - I just know that I am getting power that has been scrubbed not just once, but SIX TIMES. Now that's CLEAN!!!

All my friends agree that since I started using this second rack that my bass lines punch through with authority, and sparkle with sheen! Even my distortion boxes no longer sound dirty!

By the way, SERIAL POWER CONDITIONING™ and SERIAL POWER CLEANING™ have been tested at independent facilities by qualified personnel using the latest equipment, verifying what golden ears have recognized.

This post will probably throw me straight to the "biased-in-favor-of-science" camp but I'll post it anyway. Regarding the science vs layman conversation:

And the caption text:

"I mean, what's more likely -- that I have uncovered fundamental laws in this field that no one in it has ever thought about, or that I need to read a little more? Hint: it's the one that involves less work."

For a layman, what would seem to be more probable?
LOL. I love it.

Thanks Bob. Ok. Got that. Now what if the power coming into the A/C outlet is full of junk - a poorly wired club with "dirty power"? Does a power conditioner help in any way to improve or provide consistency of sound in such a scenario, or do they just provide protection against spikes and such?

In general - neither.

Or at least, no more so than your average $10 power strip.

Well said, and aptly quoted.

Even so, could you get a friend to come around and help you conduct a proper blind test on your power cords, as described earlier in the thread? It might take maybe an hour or so.

The results would be a really helpful contribution to this discussion.

Okay, I'm going to do this, because you're all making me feel like a cult member in need of deprogramming lol.

But if I understand correctly, it's not possible to do an actual double-blind test unless the tester is also blinded. This isn't possible because even if covered up the cables are obviously different. I'd be amenable to some sort of A/B box, but I'm not going to bother to buy one or make one. Besides, with my illness, I have reason to believe the components in such a box could distort the sound to the point of nullifying the test. Same goes for recording the results .. mics have way more of a sonic signature then any cable (Or am I wrong about that too? lol)

So I'll do a regular blind test with a friend who I trust wants the truth as much as I do.. I'll do it with a home stereo amp/system cuz as I said before a bass amp isn't designed for high resolution.. I don't believe I could discern any difference especially with my inconsistent playing technique lol. I don't have an ESP cable, but I do have access to other "audiophile" power cables, I'll A/B them with a stock IEC cord.

Give me a week or so cuz I just played a gig and have a cold and can't hear anything but ringing. :eyebrow: I promise to report back with my tail between my legs if I can't identify any difference. If this thread is closed I'll post my experience in this forum. :hiding:

Fascinating discussion.

Critical thinking vs. critical hearing.
Objective vs. subjective.
Objective asks the subjective for objective evidence.
Subjective tells the objective that subjective perception IS the evidence.
And therein lies the flaw.

If possible, use the same recorded lick, obviously with the same amp, settings and volume. ideally, have your back turned and tell the dude swapping the cords to take the same time interval between all samples, regardless of whether he is truly swapping cords. Finally, have him go through the same routine between samples, even unplugging and plugging a dummy cord so as to preserve the same sequence of events and sounds you'll hear. I recommend 50 times, 25 with each, in a random order. finally, both you and he should have a sheet with 50 spaces on it to mark cord 1 or cord 2. At the end of the test-you can both correlate them simultaneously.ALL OF THIS IS SIMPLY TO ENSURE THAT THE ONLY ARBITER IS YOUR EARS. PERIOD.

True. A double blind test is simply that - both the experimenter and the test subject are blinded.

It is as simple as having a 3rd person set up the test. Person 1 puts each cable into a long plastic tube and labels one A and the other B. He also sets up a random generator (MS Excel) to generate a list of A or Bs. Person 2 takes the 2 tubes, and plugs them in in the order listed in the random generator, leaving the same amount of time between each. Person 3 lists down his opinion of the cables over all tests, from a location where he cannot see person 2 or the amp that person 2 is plugging in.

Later a statistical comparison between the two lists (the random list and the list created by person 3), and the likelihood that there is a difference between the cables can be calculated.

I'm hoping to run a test in a week or so at my friends studio. We plan to take a pre-recorded bass track (we'll use both a Sadowsky and an Fbass) and send that signal to my mic'd bass setup (mesa walkabout, aguilar gs112) and record the amp into protools with a high-quality mic, once with a plain old power cord in the Mesa and then again with the ESP MusicCord. All levels will be matched. Once we have our A/B tracks, we'll begin to run a series of tests.

I'm not sure if anybody has previously posted about this company Russ Andrews here in the UK.
It's a recession and they try to sell an 8ft speaker cable for £11098.80 pounds sterling...Yes the decimal point is in the correct place!

or for our American Friends its $15924.37

How much for a 20ft version I wonder.

If it wasn't so sad, it would be hilarious.
I'm sure they only need to sell a single cable to cover their yearly overheads
