They're for gullible folks who have no clue at all what a power lead does.
They make you sound more powerful, simple really, more you pay, the more powerful it gets....
I was talking to an "audiophile" recently who told me he had significantly improved the sound of his stereo by wiring his macintosh tube amps to the grid side of his house's main power distribution board, so he now has NO FUSES OR RCDs
They must have heard that the word was out at TalkBass today. They just RAISED the prices.
The power cord list price just rose from $799 to $999, and the sale price rose from $649 to $799. The surge protector list price rose from $1499 to $1999 and the sale price rose from $1299 to $1499.
It's funny how the new sale prices total about the same amount as the old list prices. I guess that's one way to keep a sale going. Or maybe Victor raised his endorsement fee.

Those two products are designed mostly for ultra high-end audio and studio use. The do make a difference in those settings, but I would never invest that kind of money into my live rig for a power cord. I am, however, going to purchase one of these: http://essentialsound.com/product/MCord_Cord.html

I'll bet if the power distributors were rack mounted people would be jumping on them. Its all in the packaging.

Okay. folks - one person has politely asked me to reopen this thread as they believe there may be some merit in the discussion.
I closed the thread as it was already proving to be controversial and had generated a post report (by the way, just politely asking why it was closed would have a been a great way of finding this out, no?). Although my mod colleagues understood and agreed with my original reason for closure (which was the mess that threads discussing cables always seem to become), I've decided to see whether a discussion about the topic is possible within the rules. So, carry on for now...

i remember seeing a video demonstration of that cord where the guy set up two identical cabs and put a mic up to each of them so we could "hear" the difference. i thought the cab without the musicord sounded better.
If you are using a monitor or computer power cord on your amplifier, there WILL be a difference if you replace it with a heavy duty power cord.
Each one of my 4PRO's draws 15 amps at full power. There should be at least a 14 ga cord on one of those amps.
I'm pretty sure the correct cord could be bought for under $1400. er, a new amp with the correct cord for under $1400. BOB
