Only a P-bass?

I was killing time at GC today, playing a really nice MIA P-bass that was only $1,199. The fact all items in store are 15% off for the rest of the month got the wheels spinning in my mind. It would be cool to simplify and just play a P-bass for a while (although a P5 would be even better!:bassist:)

You can never go wrong with a P-Bass.

And if you think its just too simple, the new John East P-Retro will add a bit of active versatility, without sacrificing that classic passive tone.

MMMMmmmm, P5. Squier needs to do a P5. That'd sell like hotcakes.

I'm surprised there aren't more - I wonder if it's a logistical reason?

I look at things relatively. Every so often I think the grass is greener on the other side. I get all excited that I found something, then I pick my P back up and realize it was there all along! Still haven't found anything better . . .

While not the most versatile things in the world, a good P bass' tone is versatile enough that you can make it work with just about anything....... and the newer MIA P's fit that bill perfectly...... especially with the right strings.

I've contemplated a lot recently about picking up another 5 string..... the things I'm doing lately could use it..... but then I play my '08 P, and think, dang, Pino tunes down his P's for stuff calling for it...... Maybe a BEAD tuned, newer MIA P is what I need to add to my collection?

Think there's still room on the list for the limited run of the 30 Lakland LOG P5 basses... only $1000 for LOG members. Of course, it appears they won't be delivered til late Fall at this point, but looks like it's going to be a killer bass...

With the 35" scale, and the 22 frets, and the full size looking pickguard, that P pickup seems to be way closer to the bridge than normal, almost half way between the P position and the Stingray position..... odd.

P basses were always one of those basses that I would pick up and play and not like the stand alone tone. Then I got an 80's MIJ with a Frahlin in it (see my avatar) cheap off ebay just so I had a P in the arsenal. The tone of this bass possibly sits in the mix when playing live better than any other Bass I own. The way it sits with an Electric Guitar is fantastic.

I still don't love listening to it stand alone like I do my RH or Jazz but I know what it sounds like in the mix - and thats what counts. The stingray 4 is almost as good. But the P bass sounds as full as a fat woman's sock in the mix!
