Only One Bass?

I just sold one of my P’s last week, so now I have 4 J’s, 1 P and one upright.
I could probably get by w/o two of the J’s, but hey, I’ve sold at least 5 over the last few years, so maybe it’s time to look for another, probably not a Fender (gasp!).

..it would be my Pedulla...

Same with my Pedulla. There are some you date, and some you marry... but Michael Pedulla put some sort of magic into the wood and wire. We all know that he isn't the only luthier to have done that, however it could be my one and only... we have logged so many good times and gig hours together.

Doc, never sell your beautiful Pentabuzz. But - if one day, you have a screw loose, please promise that you will give me first shot (you know my word and my money are good). Your Penta is a gem for sure...

Sure, I promise, but I will never sell it.

I have one bass. In that stand over there. And one bass next to it because there are two spots in the stand. And then one bass in hanging in that hanger on the wall. And one bass hanging in that other wall hanger. And one bass downstairs waiting for some paint. And one bass downstairs waiting for a new pickup rout. And one bass downstairs waiting for me to fix the pickup rout that I screwed up.

I only have one bass. Totally not becoming a hoarder.

Well I finally got rid of my fenders which were always go to axes for me. The 2 I’d keep are my Ritter Cora 5 and a very special old Warrior Adam Nitti model built by Jay who doesn’t get as involved as he used to. They’re both fives, active / passive but the spacing is a touch tighter on the Ritter. I still have to learn how to slap on it as I’m used to 19 mm and the Ritter might be 18.5 mm or close to that.

Heh, I've had one bass for ... 25 years. Steinberger Spirit 4-string of all things. It still does all that I need it to, which amazes me. I think the cheapo passive/wood ones have an appeal that the active/graphite ones don't, believe it or not.
I've had an XL2 since 86 and own 3 Hohner and a Spirit Woodberger, and don't agree. I gigged with the XL2 for about 15 years as my sole instrument.

I am happy you've found what you like though.

I went for 7 or 8 years only owning a single bass, a 5 string fretless. Right now my only functioning bass is also a (different) 5 string fretless. I actually own two 4's and two 5's, one each in fretted and fretless, but like I said, that fretless 5 is the only one that works right now.

I could easily only own this one ... I only play originals, and I gravitate towards music and projects where fretless fits very well. If I was doing studio work still, or playing in cover bands, or hiring out as a side-woman like I used to, I'd need some more options. It's all different for everyone, just depending on what each person's situation is.

Currently in process of becoming a 2 bass guy over here! I'm set for a 5 string (Ibanez BTB33), but deciding on a 4 string is proving to be difficult. Doesn't help that I'm a bargain hunter as well, and I obviously want something that covers a lot of ground. Might go PJ because of that, even though I love the simplicity of a P.
