I am pretty sure, I am not going to be a one bass owning player, but if I were to drop down to one, it would be my Pedulla. The more I think about it, two basses, a fretted and fretless are optimal for me. I will probably end up with four, but realistically, at four, at least one will be neglected a lot. I guess I really love basses, but I do not want too many at home.:bassist:
Didn't you make this exact same post a few months ago?

Just one bass... for me it would be my Fender Elite Jazz V. But I’m glad I don’t have to limit myself to one. Good Pbass style basses can be had for little money if you look out for one . My Squier Classic Vibe 60’s Precision is the perfect complimentary bass to my Elite Jazz V.
A good P with flats and a good Super Jazz V is bare minimum for me.

I have one bass. It’s not fancy. A schecter C-5 I bought B stock and modified to death over the years. I giggled with it to death. I sold the Schecter when I bought a Fender P-Bass Deluxe. I tracked down the Schecter’s buyer and rebought my bass. I sold that Fender. I sold my thunderbird. I sold my custom P-Bass. Now, I only own my Schecter.

The tone, feel, and weight is, to me, perfect. I know every ding and smashed edge. I cannot imagine another bass taking its place.

I had one bass for the first 15 years, It was a telecaster bass. Then I got a Jazz for the next 15 years. After that came all the others. 50 years later and I have to reduce the herd so we can downsize and retire. But I just put together two more! Sale coming soon (I have been posting the idea of a sale for several years here...someday soon, I swear).

Anyway One bass? For gigging it should be the first Jazz I bought. But for nostalgia's sake I could never let that Tele go.

If you love the bass guitar I do believe it is impossible to be happy with only one.

Gear is a tool to make music for a small percent of people, and a very small percent of Talkbass members. Most of us found our way here for some reason or another, my guess is it wasn’t for music theory knowledge.

You will be hard pressed to find a frequent poster here who only has 1 bass, their first, and still has a valid opinion to share.

Harsh!

Well, maybe not. I only have one bass*, my first, and am a frequent poster, although whether I have a valid opinion to share is debatable, I guess.

*I still play the Squier P I bought used to start on and am happy with it. But suppose something happens to it? What will I do? Oh, whew, someone gave me another P copy...that one could be a backup...sorted! Hey, look, someone’s selling this metal death axe-looking Dean bass for $60 with dead electronics. I’ll fix that and give it to my metal head band buddy! Then,...

somehow I actually have three basses in my one-bass household, is what I’m saying.
