So I just recently found out that the owner before me already changed the op amps in my amp to TL082's is this a good thing or bad thing? Should I put TLE2072's in or at least put TL072's back in or are these good/ok/better?

The TL082 has slightly worse specs than the 072, so it is not really an upgrade. I should be able to post a thread with sound clips of my WT-500 mods in the next day or so. That should give an idea what sort of differences changing op amps and capacitors can make.

In my world what is being suggested here is called POOGE: Progressive Optimization Of Generic Electronics. Essentially it's going through a piece of electronics and upgrading components in a logical way. The bottom line is that while improvements ore possible the path is expensive. Some of the resistors cost several bucks each. Capacitors a lot more. For something like the OP's amp it's simply not worthwhile. The end result could possibly be not much better than the original if at all better.

If you want to drop the noise floor, replace the 1st preamp op amp or tube(as Gm drops, noise rises with age). The first gain stage determines the whole system's noise floor. Don't waste money replacing the rest.

That won't change the tone. You'll need to change the tone stack parts to do that, or just get an amp whose tone stack you like better.

TLE2072CP

The "A" suffix version has improved offset voltage characteristics, you won't need that. The "P" package is most likely the cheapest one. "C" is for 0 to 70 degrees C operating temperature. The other models seem to be mil-spec for operating temperature. Let us know how you find the upgrade!

Have you done business with these guys before? Sadly, there is a HUGE industry of selling counterfeit electronic components out of China.

Here's an interesting thread about a guy who bought a pile of "metal film" resistors from a sketchy EBay seller located in China.

This is not an ebay seller, it is an actual commercial supplier/manufacterer that is based out of china.

Even without counterfeits, when a component manufacturer sends a batch electronic components out to a gear maker, the gear maker runs a quick test and rejects some, sending them back.

These returns don't get destroyed, they're still sold on the market. Ebay is one way to sell them off.

Buy from a local distributor. It's worth the extra few $$ over the life of a product.

The problem with the local distributors is they're telling me at least a 3 week lead time...I don't have that kinda time 2 wait.

I understand concerns about "made in china" op amps...but again this is a commercial supplier/wholesaler who doesn't even allow you to purchase from them unless ur a company urself. I would be a little skeptical if the price was ridiculously low like cents/piece but it wasn't just a bit under local competitors (who prolly have them made or ordered from overseas anyway) and the shipping was immediate.

They were paid 4 using paypal so I can get a refund through my buyer's protection if they turn out to be crap.
