I have a problem with my Warwick Corvette $$ 5 strings...When slapping, it sounds to me like the open B - E - A strings don't make the usual "clank" you would expect/look for when using such playing style, expecially the E string...the fretted notes sounds better, but the open string ones are to my ears somewhat...muffled, for lack of a better word.
I set up the bass following Warwick's tutorials on YouTube, for the B string the action is 2mm at 12th fret and 2,25 at 24th, for the E string it's 1,75 at 12th and 1,50 at 24th.
The strings are D'Addario Prosteels tapered 43 - 127
I attach a short audio clip where I play the open string followed by the first fretted note (so it's B/C, E/F, A/A#)...As I said, it sounds to me like the open strings cannot hit the frets properly, expecially the E, to the point that it's more clanky when I play fingerstyle hitting harder than slapping...
The strings are not new, I don't recall exactly when I put them on but they're not years old, the setting should be ok to achieve a decent slap sound (altough I'm not that good at slapping, never used it very much..). What could it be? Maybe it's the "natural", intrinsic Corvette slap sound? Or is it my technique that sucks so much I cannot even hit the strings properly (although I don't have the same sound problem with my Spector, the "clank" is always there even when the strings are a bit old...)?
