Opeth's new record, 'The Last Will And Testament'

As a (formerly) diehard Opeth fan that fell off circa Heritage when they moved away from grrr and leaned too far into '70s prog sensibilities for my personal tastes, I almost can't believe this record. It's like they finally said, "You know what: We can have both."

Keen to hear everyone's thoughts. So far my favourite sidewinder has been the harp and flute break on Ş4. Peak trolling. Martin Mendez also gets a ton of space in the mix (and its margins) which is cool. He's only been waiting 27 years. Happy for Martin.

Late to this thread, but I think this record is amazing. They are going to be in St Louis (6 hour drive for me) on Feb 12 and I really really want to go but a bunch of unfortunate and unexpected expenses this week make it hard to justify another concert/road trip/time off work. Oh well.

I've been aware of this band for years but never *really* listened until a couple weeks ago. Can't believe it took 46 years for me to discover that this band is insanely awesome.

I saw the same lineup (Opeth and Katatonia) a few years ago when they toured. Both put on a great show! I'm debating going to the St. Louis date as well, though I'm thankfully far closer!

Nice! Go!

There's a 4-string EBMM Bongo HH at the MusicGoRound in St Louis that's been there for a while and it's the exact Bongo I've been wanting for a while. I know I won't be able to stop myself from checking it out if I'm the area. That said, maybe I should go and discover it has high action and sharp frets or something else that would sour it for me. Because if it ends up being perfectly and playing perfectly, I'll be out another bunch of money lol

Welp, I decided to buy tickets to see Opeth in St Louis on Feb 12th. I'm excited. Of course I'll stop at MusicGoRound the next day but not sure if I'll buy myself the Bongo (if it's still there.) LOL.

Fingers crossed for no severe weather.
