To me, Gene Simmons is EVERYTHING that is wrong with the music industry.

Really??? Gene Simmons is what's wrong with the music industry???? Hmmm....not the Brittney Spears of the world...not the Kanye West's of the world? You are going with Gene Simmons, huh? Very interesting that you don't go with the over produced non-musicians making millions of dollars each year. You choose the working man...the guy who has been in more arenas than you will ever play in. He knew how the game was played from the beginning and just made it his goal to get his piece. If it didn't go to him it would have went to some record industry big-wig. And believe me, they also made plenty off the KISS name.

Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley had the business smarts to OWN the KISS name and all marketing rights. They have put out 18 albums; 9 that went gold in the US (6 in Canada); 7 that went platinum in the US (5 in Canada).

Yeah, Gene is what's wrong with the music business and he is laughing his ass all the way to the bank.

What have you done for the "industry"?

I voted awesome, that's right I said it!! I kind of drifted away fro Kiss after Destroyer but all those early albums were (and are) very cool. Gene does his thing and makes no apologies. I feel the persona you see is how he is. I don't agree with him on everything but I always appreciate someone who puts it all out there.

Hmm the fact that you compared britney spears to kanye west makes me think that you may not know the industry as good as you think you do, no offense of course.

while he wrote/co-wrote some catchy tunes back in the day i view him as more carnival barker than musician.....i used to think the on stage antics of bands like alice cooper and the like were kinda cool but i was a teenager.........as most fans of kiss were then.......very few bands had done this kind of thing then..... now its almost required.....this stuff has cheapened music to the point that a lot of folks believe hendrix was all about playing with his teeth and that god awful star spangled banner wank.....

because of bands like kiss et al concerts have evolved into non musical events, beer fueled scream fests as much concerned with merch sales, mosh pit lunacy, idiot fan behavior etc that unfortunately spills over into the real music concerts making a lot of them unwatchable for grown ups.......

nothing like paying eighty bucks to listen to drunks screaming louder than the band.......and gene is partly responsible tho there are lots of others to blame......ive seen more concerts ruined........kiss made the music take a back seat to the show biz .......

as far as his playing goes id say he is living proof that it is far better to be lucky than good

I always thought that someone else played bass on the early Kiss albums...in fact, I remember someone being interviewed in Bass Player magazine many years ago who claimed to have been asked to ghost on a Kiss album but he turned it down due to prior commitments.

Kiss gets far too much credit for such a collection of medicore and bad songs. I could care less how good their stage show was, to me the songs are what's most important.

+1,000,000,000....would rather go see a good nameless band in a dive than a supergroup in an arena any day of the week..................

everything wrong with the industry?

i don't even think the Kanyes and the Britneys are the problem... there have always been this type of artist around

i believe more of a problem with the industry is American Idol and the fact that you don't even have to win to get a record deal..just go on the show, go to rehab, and they'll sign you...

like it or not... at the very least... kiss paid some dues.
