Opinions on cab micing please

Ya, springing for a good mic like the Heil or EV is the way to go IMHO. However, if you use a DI for lows below 100hz, and a 57 or 58 for everything else, it'll do a really good job for you and you can keep phasing issues at bay pretty easily.

Thanks for advice. I was considering the same at some stage - buy a really good mic and not worry about DI. Just run one cable to the desk. Wasn't sure this would be possible. Some mics go down to 35-30Hz, but if you at the curves they attenuate like -10dB at these frequencies.

That's why I though perhaps a kick drum mic would be better, but other replies suggest they'd scoop the mids and I would hate that. Trouble is I have to order the mic overseas, there's not much choice locally, so any suggestions as to a model (EV, Heil) would be great.
