Opinions on Carvin PA

Well it is nice to know that your band can have money for alcohol but not enough for better PA gear. Got to keep your priorties in order.

It kinda sucks being the only responsible one with a decent job, but it's all just for fun! I seriously think the other guys would forgo food for beer and cigs.
In my experience, they'll do without the food and beer, but the cigs are standard equipment.
I just picked up a pair of Carvin 722's (12" monitors) in great condition for $150. 1 for the guitarist/singer and 1 for me. I have a Kustom 210 powered monitor for the drummer. Finally we have our own PA. No more borrowing pieces from other people! (amp here, monitors there). We will be using the PA this Friday for a gig so I will update with reviews.

So how did it go? I'm looking at the same stuff you are since I'm in the same situation. I'm starting a second project and need a PA. I've never had one and no one in my new project has one of their own even though we are all currently in other bands. We also play small bars/restaurants. Not even clubs really. I mean if there are 50 people in the house it's freaking packed. My brothers band uses a powered mixer, 2 15's and sometimes a sub and they are earslittingly/facemeltingly loud. So I'm guessing a similar setup for my band, use more judiciously, would be fine.

Two of the bands I'm in use some Carvin PA gear. Both of the guys who own it have had it for years and tell me they have had no issues with any of it. One of the mixers is from the early 90's and we used it on a gig a few weeks ago. Worked great. Overall, IMO Carvin makes great stuff at reasonable prices.
The PA worked great! I was concerned during the gig because I kept looking over and the amp for the mains kept clipping. The problem wasn't the PA it was the drunk singer. He had a dead E string on his acoustic and trying to get some sound out of it he cranked the 80 slider on the EQ for the mains and left it cranked for the whole gig.
We ran some acoustic (a couple of songs), a little kick, and vocals and it sounded good. It was loud, too loud (we need to learn to turn down) and easy. there is something to be said about having everything in 1 box. I would say idiot proof, but I already told you my experience.
Overall I'm very pleased! For $1,000 I don't know I could have done much better and most of the gear has a 3 year warranty! (monitors excluded).

Big fan of Carvin PA...tremendous value. My only suggestion is you might upgrade the actual speakers in the cabs..IMHO they are the weakest component in the chain...but to the layman they are fine....they just don't have the fidelity of a higher quality speaker....especially when they are pushed hard.
But I am being very critical....you cannot go wrong with their stuff.
I plugged in my Bag End TA 1200 cabs to the Carvin head and there was a huge difference....
