Some have stated that the onboard preamp is weak. Besides that, it is one of the most successful signature lines fender has ever put out for bass. That should be a good clue for you. Personally, I have always loved these basses, whether MIJ or MIM.natural finish for me...
Great looking, well maybe a little busy with controls, but serviceable active/passive Fender.

yeah, even if with that silly pickguard (on MIM models also unjustified for dual battery cavity's behind) just try an'sell this and compare value with Sire V7: a Fender's a Fender!

are you referrin' to headstock shape?
let alone that, Sire are quite fine basses but - I was discussin' the same yesterday with two friends o'mine, one with a MIJ Fender Miller, the other with a brand new V7 - even if pre's also more accomplished on Sire, Fender feels... bassier, ballsier, I don't even know how to correctly express it

I'm not planning on selling (funny how everyone assumes that) the pickgaurd is by no means "silly"
I love the looks and quality put into these instruments (ash artist series), the battery compartment is on the front on the 4 string model by the way, the Sires remind me of the Chinese Rondo basses
probably made in the same factory in China, I'll stick with Fender tried and true......
its the MM pickgaurd design that allows him to do the dragged triplets.....

I would call the pickguard "silly" because I'm not allowed to express how I really feel about it's look. While I understand the need for that guard it is single-handedly the worst thing about the bass. It's even more egregious than the "Stinglay."

No, it's the Sting inlay on the Fender Sting P bass. It's another extremely divisive minor aesthetic point, like the MM guard.
I own a MIJ white one. Purchased it new without having ever played one before. Uh-huh. It's extremely beautiful but doesn't supply the tones I prefer - there's too much fatassedness when switched to active. Plus I dislike how the single coils can't be soloed without going all Buzz Lightyear.
I'll likely sign up for a Supporting Membership next year and start unloading a bunch of stuff. A bass like the MM should go to someone who will appreciate it more than me.

I've had mine for about 4 or 5 years. I love it. The preamp is a bit weak; if you can upgrade to an actual Sadowsky preamp. The preamp can be noisey. Its a bit heavy too. but its a keeper.
From all indications, the Sire is an excellent value for the money. But, please don't go down the Squire road of how it is so much better than the Fender that costs 'X' amount more and please don't tell me how "no one has ever said that." The truth is that people have said it and apparently just because someone says it, it has become fact...well a TB fact anyway. For what it is worth, I don't know which is worse, the pickguard on the MM Fender or the headstock on the Sire MM...the gig bag for the Sire doesn't look half-bad though and the finishes on the Sires look sweet.
