opinions on the Fender Marcus Miller 4 string jazz

I'm not looking for trouble here, so please be gentle... :D:D

I haven't had a chance to play Sire V7 yet, so I can only examine the reviews.

Regarding your experience below,

Looking at those positive reviews and hearing a lot of demo videos, including the one done by Marcus himself, I have a question for you.

If, on the back of the Sire's headstock it was written "Hand made in the USA", will that "cheap" feeling went away? Will all of a sudden, the bass played better and sounded fatter?

Never play a 4-string. owned a 5-string version. Very comfortable to play. Was not crazy about the original preamp. I also upgraded to a Sadowsky.
Traded it for a Roscoe Beck V, which to me is the best 5-string Fender ever made. ( Wish they would make it again )

Absolutely. I'm not against your preference. I'm a fan of Fender MM myself. I have played one of those, and it is a great bass.

However, IMHO, the Sire V7 is a more "balanced" sounding bass. Again, this is just my opinion from other people's reviews and videos.

I like Marcus Miller's tone and have tried a several Marcus Miller Jazz basses. I never really found one that had the tone that I like. The problem I have with signature models is that people buy them thinking that they will somehow magically sound like their favorite player. In reality, the signature models are never exactly like the basses played by the artist. For example, the pre-amp in the Marcus Miller signature bass is not the same one that Marcus uses. To me, signature basses are just an excuse to charge a higher price.

love my natural MM! I got a really good MIJ 2 yrs ago. I have a geddy too. those necks! my MM isn't too noisy, but I will be putting an Aguilar OBP1 in it soon. I actually plan on buying another pickguard and turning a fretless J into a MM fretless. It's getting a piezo bridge and that guard will give the room for the buffer and extra controls.
I don't think the MIJ sigs are overpriced, esp mint used, or new on sale..

Nope, different factory and different country. If the press I've heard is accurate, the Indonesian factory is owned by Sire, as opposed to a "lowest bidder/third party" factory making instruments for anyone who pays them.

I have a MM Jazz that I love, but I bought it used already upgraded with Lane Poor pickups and a Bart preamp. Plays great, feels great, sounds great. It has separate volume knobs for each pickup which makes it very versatile but also makes quick mid-song volume changes trickier.

I also have a Sire V7 so mdogs would really hate the aesthetics of my bass collection. Lol.
