Opinions on the MXR Analog Chorus

Any opinions on the MXR Analog Chorus? I've read it's based on the Boss CE-5, so does that make the low and high cut knobs on the Analog Chorus act like the filter knobs on the CE-5?

At the moment I'm using a Ibanez Chorus Mini, but I would like a chorus that stays clean on the lower notes and give a lush effect on the higher notes (like the x-over on the EHX Bass Clone or MXR Bass Chorus Deluxe).

I had the the Bass Clone, but the footswitch is slowly giving up on me. Buying a new one isn't really an option as I had enough problems with EHX products. Bad luck maybe?
I could go Bass Chorus Deluxe, but it's a bit pricey.

So that leaves me with the MXR Analog Chorus (if the low and high cut knobs act as a sort of x-over) or a Boss variant (CE-5, CEB-3, CH-1, CE-2W)

Please share your experiences or other suggestions.

From what I have read yes meaning it is on the chorus sound for the filters? But that does work for Justin chancellor I believe who runs one of the guitar ce’s.
I just posted on Jonny’s thread.. I’d still get the ehx bass clone… does the 80’s chorus thing perfectly if that’s what you want, is smaller than a boss size enclosure though slightly bigger than a mini. With the bass only affecting the dry and the filter switch to stop the chorus on low notes you can get an immense amount of low end… I thought I wanted the flexibility of the boss ceb3 filter but all the other versatile areas of the bass clone won out versus ceb3 and bass chorus deluxe to me.

The problems you had with EHX feels like bas luck to me. I have 9 EHX pedals right now, which I use on either my permanent bass or guitar pedal board, and none have ever had issues… and most of them are over 20 years old! I might be lucky, who knows.

Now… back on topic. I have played a regular big box Small Clone on bass (now use it for guitar) and I really enjoyed the extra controls on the Bass Clone, most notably the crossover switch. Another chorus pedal I’ve used in the past (and still own, I dust it off from time to time for fun) is an old Ibanez Soundtank Bass Chorus. Now, the Soundtank has a nice voice, the delay time control does some true Bass Clone can’t : send you near flanger territory. But… the bypass switch is a tone sucker and while it does real well with lows, it’s never like having a crossover switch.

I have tried the Boss Bass Chorus before, a while back when I chose the Ibanez over it, and the effect seemed to subtle for me.

I realize I’m using a lot of words to say that I believe the option of a crossover on a bass chorus pedal is something I wouldn’t pass on ever again. It just keeps a more focused bottom end in the mix.

Among the choices you listed, I’d choose either a Bass Clone or the MXR Deluxe bass chorus. Try both to find out which flavour of chorus you prefer. I still haven’t tried the MXR to avoid a GAS attack.

MXR Analog Chorus sounds amazing when you are using it, but it has a very real and audible treble frequency suck when bypassed, you can find detailed videos and testing on Youtube. Makes a big difference for guitar. For bass? Your call.

Bass Clone was my top pick in the studio until I wanted to get my own last month and ended up returning multiples because they all had completely different degrees of volume loss when engaged. EHX lack of quality control. It was impossible to use it as a stomp box without dramatically changing my pre or amp settings in each song.

I ended up with an MXR Bass Chorus Deluxe. It's good, but to my surprise I found that I had no use for the x-over and in fact I prefer my chorus without it even when playing down low. If I'd known that earlier I would have looked at other options like the Julia or CE-2W.
