Opportunity to get a T-40

Had an 81 and it sounded great. Built like a tank. But as heavy as one to. Well worth it. I sold mine cheap
Doesn't mean it was an aftermarket made for the T40. It could've been one he made it from another bass that he cut to fit. Maybe.

Got mine in '78 or 79 when they first came out. Played across the country with it and down in the States, mostly live, a few studio gigs. Dumped it in '85 IIRC as soon as I got my Cort Space Arrow B, which weighs about one tenth of that Peavey swamp ash body. Still have the V.

My brother used to have one from around that year. Super comfortable to play.
Congrats on the T-40. I love playing mine. The T-40s have been going up in price the past few years, especially the sunburst and white
basses. They are well made and a beast. You can use it to demo a house and play a gig with it that evening without having to tune it.

the other day I was in a guitar shop in Vancouver and a guy was playing a bass for awhile and it sounded good-I went over to see what he was playing and voila! a T40. damn...I thought. $750 CAN they were asking. heavy as all hell.
if peavey reissues these and can get them around 8.5 lbs, I think they could sell a few of them

Ha ha! Figures. I picked up a beautiful Sunburst one w/original case about 9 years ago. Great bass, but just SOOO dang heavy. I ended up selling it to another TB'er not too long after buying it. Still have a few pics though:
drool Whenever I see those minty burst finish peaveys gas kicks in hard. Especially the sienna burst, it's a great burst in general. I long for a day in the future where I have the money to shell out for one of the really nice ones, even though I currently and will already have two great sounding, yet really beat up ones. Problem is by that time they'll probably be going for over twice as much
I'm restoring two of them, both with original cases, will post pics when done.
BTDT a long time ago. Had a natural finish ash T-40. Weren't bad but it was real heavy. Not that much of a bother but i thought i'd scored when i got a Foundation, then several more Foundations, some Dyna's and on and on. Always wanted a Fender back then but was too poor to afford a new one and every used one i looked at was even worse off than the used Peaveys i always wound up with.
There is a cherry Foundation here locally with a couple super ferrite pups and i've been lurking on it but i just can't bring myself to pull the trigger.
Having had a lot of Peavey basses i can tell you they are nice, but i still like the jazz better.

Congratulations on a GREAT purchase! Prices have been spiraling up since I bought my first T40 in 2011. I paid $265.00 back then for a very early "8M-prefix", 1978, slab-body, first-year model with original brown-fur case.
That purchase was my gateway into the world of "T-Series" Peaveys, and I've spent the last five years grabbing every T20, T20FL, T40, T40FL and T45 that has been locally available and within my budget since. I've even stumbled across the odd Patriot here and there. I LOVE these basses, and you will too!
Now, if you can only resist the urge to get........Just ONE More.....you'll be a better man than ME!

I really haven't noticed the weight being an issue so far. It's not light but definitely not a deal breaker for me personally.
Same here. None of my Ts are under 11 pounds, but I have a few other basses that are around that weight as well, and my Grind is right at 13 pounds.
Beautiful bass, but weren't all of the '78s in the rectangular cases with the copper-colored lining? I have three '78s (one of which is an 8M), and they all have the rectangular cases.
Every time I play mine I marvel at the sound, amazed that it's not active. Then I take it off and pound back a couple of Advil.
