Optional Removable Grill Cloth?

I just got a new Ampeg BA108v2 and the grill cloth frame is removable.

I've just figured this out last night when I pulled on the little strap hanging out of the frame edge and the grill cloth frame pulled off from the velcro that was holding it in place.

Anyways, is there a reason for this?

My guess is it has to do with mic recording and cutting down on vibration?

My apologies if this has been covered before. I did a search but found nothing specific.

yep, or speaker change outs.

i've never been a fan of grill cloth. i generally remove them (metal or cloth) and replace them with individual speaker grills because (IME) they eventually get raggedy or rattle, but that's just me.

I think it is for speaker protection.
