Orange Ad200 Mk3

Just need some more info on this. Firstly it has two 4 ohm outputs on the back and one 8 ohm, how many watts do you get at 8 ohms? Secondly are the two 4 ohms outputs for two 4 ohm cabs or can two 8 ohm cabs be used to make 4 ohms?

Cheers,

Use the 4 Ohm connections for a pair of 8 Ohm cabs to make a total of 4 Ohms, or use one of them with a 4 Ohm cab. It puts out about 200 watts at either impedance (4 or 8). The more speaker area you can hook up while remaining at 4 or 8 Ohms, the louder it'll get.

Hello hallo.

Some one wrote a manual for your amp: Invalid Link Removed

Hey cheers for that link, well I pulled the trigger on one. Got the limited edition in white. Had my first band rehersals with it last night and I have never been blown away by an amp. I literally had a huge grin on my face for the whole of the practise. Great huge low-end and my Ric just sounded so massive through it. Fortunately some of my pedals now sound even better with it and my robert keeley ts-9 Od is to die for. It's so simple to dial in a perfect tone with and it is extremely loud. My only criticism is the lack of DI but that negative is so insignificant with how this amp sounds. If anyone is tempted by it i suggest you jsut try it and you will love it!:hyper::hyper:

I'm curious as to what the price difference is in the UK as to here in the USA. Over here they go for around $2100. My brother is going over to Germany for 2 years as a US government civilian contract employee and the wheels have been turning as to having him get me an Orange while he is overthere. He plans to travel all over Europe (man I envy him) included the UK while hes there.

Pictures as requested, just got to save now for some orange cabs although the Ashdowns' im using are suprising good for the money. Camera wasn't the best so will try and get better pics.

The quesiton is now, do I buy a DI box and plug it into the slave output on the back or do I mic up one of my cabs?

Mic the cab :D. If you get a DI, I recommend a countryman type 85, you can place it between the head and cab or run it before the head. I used one with my V4, sounds pretty good. I'd still rather have a mic, especially for recording, but if you're playing clubs and such it tends to be easier (IME) to just have the DI. Congrats on the new amp.

DON'T put the D.I. box in the slave output if you get this amp.

I asked Wil Loftin (Artist tech guy at Orange) and he said that while you can do that, it will effect the tone of the head. He didn't explain why, and he didn't state that it would damage the head or the D.I. in any way, but be aware that it WILL change your tone.

I don't see why it would alter the tone of the head, it's a preamp out essentially. If anything, it will sound different because its just a preamp out and will lack the sound of the full pre-power set up, but unless there is some weird ins and out situation going on...?

I'm not exactly sure of what he meant either, however, he did stress that it would change your tone. I'm not sure where it is in the signal chain or anything like that.

Maybe he meant it would just change your tone in the line? Meaning through your speakers it would sound the same, but through the D.I. it would essentially just be your bass plugging straight in?

You could always just plug the out into the input of another amp and see what Wil meant by this (see if the tone coming out of your Orange changes or not.)

Sorry I'm not more help guys! If need be I could always give Wil a holler.
